Hello, I'm new to this forum and hope to find an answer to this question. I'm interested in buying a truck with a dd15 engine, but i want to know the difference between the truck engine I have now compared to DD15. I'm currently on a truck that has the 60s series engine. Now, I want to know the fuel economy and how many miles I can go per gallon on the DD15.

Also if someone can tell me the key differences between the 60s engine and dd15. I'd also like to know personal experiences from people who had this engine on how well it runs and if it has lots of problems or not.

Sorry if this post is sloppy, but I just can't seem to find answers for these questions anywhere on the internet.

    Thank you for the help!

you didn't search very hard on the net if you couldn't find any differences. mpg on the dd15 should be better then your s60, but that depends on just about everything.

In a nutshell the DD15 will have all the emissions garbage on it....Better fuel mileage perhaps, but that 60 series will out last the DD15 hands down... The company I work for runs DD13's and they regularly need to be attended to due to emissions problems.. The pre-emissions 60 series is the way to go if you ask me...If the 60 series has a DPF then it is pretty much ruined. Oh yeah, as far as fuel mileage goes I've seen pre-emissions trucks get the same or better MPG's depending on the set-up.

The DD15's will do better generally against any series 60 fuel wise. The 2003 and older Series 60 were the best performers. What's different about these engines? EVERYTHING. New vs old technology. Gear train, injectors, clutter on the exterior of the engine, etc. Numbers will vary, there are too many factors. But, you can generally expect 6-9 MPG with a DD15, and 6-8 with a SEries 60. Again, way too many factors, all I can say is GENERLLY a DD15 will outperform a SEries 60 in fuel economy. Longevity? Couldn't tell you, but I've seen DD15's with a million miles on them already. Today's modern engines will last around the same mileage.

A 1 year wonder not paying for maint telling you a dd15 will outperform a 60 bs i have both side by side the maint is half the cost and when something breaks most of the time is dealer only items my 12.7 can be repaired anywhere for less money and time.....and the mpg ain,t no improvement

If you comparing 07 dd15 and the current dd15, I would recommend taking the current dd15.

My buddy drove a cascadia with dd15 and had 7.9 mpg at 68. Best one he had is 8.5 mpg at 63.

I have been driving a Freightliner Cascadia, 2012 DD15... don't know more specifics about the engine right now... Having problems with the emissions system and it only happens while going up and down California mountains...

Last Nov. while running around in CA, had problem, Freightliner in Fontana did all kinds of troubleshooting tests, said filters were all clogged up... ended up replacing SCR box, DPF filters, all sensors, and more... can't remember it all... Truck was in their shop for 3 weeks... :biggrin_2552: A few days ago, going up very steep hill on CA-58, truck started having the same problem again... :biggrin_2552: Engine lights on, noise coming from SCR box, lost power... Now truck is at Freightliner in Fontana... and they are doing the same troubleshooting all over again...

I asked them why is this happening, what is causing it, how to prevent from happening again? And they don't know... :biggrin_25512:

Does anybody here have any info or any experience with this kind of problem? I am really puzzled... :biggrin_2552:
