Just looking for some answers from my forum friends... I have a cat c12 that has about 50,000 miles on it since it's inframe was done. Before the inframe I barely had any smile at all coming out of the exhaust. Ever since I drove out of the shop and to now it is always blowing a good puff of black smoke upon acceleration and also if I am climbing a grade under load it will smoke in the lower rpm range.
Anybody have any any answeres as to what may be happening or going on? Also I found that I have traces of oil droplets at the bottom of the breather tube at the end of the day.
Thanks
nick

Might be a boost leak. I'd check all the boots and tighten the clamps. Did you replace or at least check the CAC for leaks when it was inframed? They all have traces of oil inside the blowby tube that's normal.
wore out Thanks this. -
Replace air cleaner then mark MI. on tape on outside and keep track of MI. on each filter 50 or 60,000 mi is agood start with 1 air cleaner.

I will check for a boost leak thank you. I wish I had a gauge in the cab!

What he said about dirty filter too.

sounds like they changed your injectors to larger ones

A gauge in the cab is nice but if there is a small leak it will still make all the boost in the world but smoke a little and loose horsepower. I know it doesn't make sense most of the time you won't notice the power loss till its fixed.

I am guessing that the consensus is that there might be a boost leak. Will need to find time and get it looked at.

I have a c12. It don't spool below 1200 rpm's and smokes till it spools.

had shop put a 6 pack inj in 1 time & set the fuel, where I got better m.p.g. better. h.p. but smoked a lot. 1 inj lasted just til warranty was over. had my local shop replace the one. & reset inj, no more smoke, not another prob with inj, but loss the power increase. inj & fuel setting will cause what you are describing, but the other things posted by others will too. good luck.
