My husband and I spoke with Dominique, a USX recruiter yesterday. We graduated last week from driving school and really like what USX was offering. The problem is, the recruiter tells us, we will be on eastern regional, on a sliding pay scale, and get paid 58 dollars a day for a month.
Is this all correct? We have followed this forum for months, have read all of Anne and Craig's posts, and have never read this anywhere. We are debating whether or not we should sign up for orientation in shippensburg if this is what we will be doing. We thought teams ran OTR, not regional and we thought it would be a flat team rate, not a sliding scale. Oh, she also said we would be home every other weekend. We want miles, and I'm not sure we will get them. Please let us know if this is all correct. Thanks in advance!
Recruiter right or wrong?

123456, thanks for your help and I'm hoping to find out accurate info today, and hopefully we will be headed to Shippensburg next week.

The 58$ dollars a day is per diem for food basically. If they give it to you, you will have more taxable income. If they don't You will write this off at the end of the year and have less taxable income.

Unless you've made up your mind, check some other companies websites for team operation; most companies teams run 48 states & some 48 states/Canada/Mexico/Alaska. Regional means short runs. Some companies listed below may say experience required on their websites, but they still sometimes hire new CDL grads. No need for you to start out on the bottom, paywise, if you don't have to.

Interstate Distributor
Marten Transport
System Transport
FFE
Navajo
Central Refrigerated
Tribe Transportation
Bekins (bekinsA1jobs)

Yoy'll be going out with a trainer as to why the $58.00 a day.Once training is over and you're in your own trk,you and your husband will get paid by the mile. All starter companies are like that.If the recruiter is talking about after training you get that then I would ask her why.

Listen to these guys. I been out here since 89. Trucking companies want teams. They will pay good money. Look around. Schneider pays good money for teams I've heard just look don't settle. Teams are the best for companies now since the new log laws. Don't go for regional. Good luck.

She probably means you will be on an eastern regional while training. And the $58 a day is only when you are training.

Eastern regional is a pleasant way of saying north east which companies have a hard time filling and for a reason. That's congestion, tolls, weather and rough terrain. Teams make their money running long haul on the open road. You should be running coast to coast or at a minimum of 1200 miles average runs. Remember these guys are used car salesman and will throw you a pitch just to get a sale.
He might be speaking of just your training because you and your husband will have to go out individually with a trainer. Then in 6-8 weeks you can join together as a team. Still with training you should be running long haul.
I wouldn't work for anyone with a sliding payscale. They don't pay you more for short miles. They penalize you for long hauls. 32cpm just because they give you a 900 mile run? That's a joke. As a 3 year driver I wouldn't run less than 37 cpm, all miles.
