Mine is a 1997 with a Volvo V12B Engine and Volvo VT1414 14 speed transmission and Eaten DS 404 -264 rear drives.

I want to learn how to shift my old million miles on it transmission before I drive it so I don't break or damage it before I even get started.

I have gotten lots of good help and responses and I appreciate them.

I'm still looking for someone that I can talk back and fourth with and get a clear understanding of this transmission shifting.

I also need to find out the gear ratio for the "C" Crawler gear in this transmission, thanks.

only your probably will need double clutching since probably one of its driver before trying to shift it too fast and damage syncros

C gear are usually about 16.41 on biger volvo gearboxes like VT2514 ....

edit: and i forget to write do not shift range group while you are in gear ( i mean preselect) some volvo gearboxes dont like this

Thanks! -- Really Good Stuff! I am paying close attention to what you are saying and I am watching the YouTube Videos over and over again. NOT preselecting Range is really important I see and the fact that I might have to double clutch because of prior damage to the synchronizers is important too. Thank You

    thanks you are welcome

but this transmission is pretty easy to shift

just shift it slower and it can least forever

and i dont know does it have safety system to not allow downshifting range group on higher speeds

but this is same as on all gearboxes i pretty often see drivers shifting to low range while they drive fast so always better first to stop ( for example when you approach to red light ....

also when you shift half gears just need to be slower even this guy on video shifts too fast by my taste

That's valuable stuff you are telling me. You don't get that from anybody but a pro who has been there. I appreciate it a lot. Thank You

Slow but steady and easy and deliberate and definite.

I finally got the shift pattern and sequence and buttons down.

"Preselect" splitter but not the "Range".

Range shift in neutral as you shift to the gear and then click the splitter down as you go in with the clutch depressed.

Drivers learning how to shift this hand on by "trial and error" could easily destroy this transmission.

    It's a "unique" bird!

Sweet, when you know how to do it and hell when you don't I would say.

Can you imagine somebody just putting experienced drivers in that truck and sending them off.

It's takes total pro's and understanding to drive this truck or you kill it!

    Thanks
