    Volvo A/C

    2006 Volvo VNL
    Climate Unit Requires Maintenance
    It comes up on my scanner Cab Climate Control - A/C Clutch relay, voltage below normal or shorted low.

    Any thoughts?

    there is refrigerant monitoring system with LEDs under hood, dr.side. Check it out

    good luck with this one.after 1 month running south without ac and 3600$ spent at one dealer and two other shops my ac works.pablo there is no freon monitoring led lights on the american volvos they are very primitive.the problem can be anywhere and most of our shops here are part changers.good luck man this problem almost drove me nuts but thank god for those guys in chicago.they actualy think and use their brains when working on a truck unlike volvo dealers

    check if there is freon in the system.most likely there isnt so have your mech put freon and dye in the system cause you have a leak.run the ac for a while and look for the dye thats where the leak is.or multiple leaks.check system pressure high and low.this will give you a hint if the system is leaking or the compressor orking prperly.if all good move on to look fort the leak with a fluoresvcent blue light.check the condensor radiator on the very front,check the hoses and pipes.if not the hose or pipe itself the o-ring seals go bad too or some dealers dont even put o-rings like tec of fontana!@#$& follow the ac lines all the way look for dye.if none found open up the cabin air filter and check the evaporator on the front. then open up the unit in the sleeper passenger side storage compartment black box.if you see no dye move on to the inside of the truck.some dealers dont wanna do this like tec of fontana they only want your money but dont wanna work for it.you go inside and you open up the dashboard pannel and remove the rubber on the floor.here you check the front evaporator again you check the front expansion valve and the thermostat.then you go to the sleeper and you open up the plastic panels on to check the rear evaporator and rear expansion valve.you change all the laeky parts.you clean all the good parts nicely you change ALL the o-rings you put everything together fill up with freon properly and your ac is gonna run like you CRAZY.if no one is willing to do all this for you i know a tiny shop in chicago that will.they started at 9am finished at 2am but the truck is like it came out of the factory everything is back in place like it should be no extra unnecesery parts at the end like at the dealer and LIFETIME WARRANTY.he said you wont have any ac problems with this truck anymore .And after driving without ac for a month boiling in texas on 120 degrees.still charged me less then volvo tec of fontana who are apsolute amateurs when it comes to repairing volvo trucks.anyway good luck man i hope you have a simple and inexpensive problem

    Welp I am a mechanic lol, just not an A/C tech. I replaced the leaking lines to the sleeper and had it recharged at another shop. The compressor was replaced last year as well as the pressure switches. There's no leaks anywhere (i've checked). The air dryer was also replaced last year as well as the lines from the condensor. This is happening to one of our drivers and it's driving me nuts. Another really weird thing is the A/C only works really well on hills or coming to a stop. That's what really threw me off, maybe something with the A/C condersor? Idk at this point. Pablo- yeah, these trucks don't have monitoring systems, although our '03 Macks do.

    Hmmmm I'm thinking maybe its cloged condensor or evaporators.Or maybe the compressor got bad running with low freon before you fixed those leaks or electrical problem.One truck in our shop has a problem where the ac doesn't work and there is an electrical fault but when they clear the fault on the comp ac is running well I can get some more details tmrw and let you know maybe it can help

    You might check the evaporator drain, it could be plugged up. If the drain tray is holding water it would keep the evaporator temp high and poor cooling, then when you go up or down hills or are coming to a stop the water flows away from the evaporator and it cools temporarily. From the code you're getting I would check AC clutch amp draw and circuit operating voltage.

    AC compressor(no matter its only 1 year old), ac condensor,expnsion valves its most likely one of those things.Good luck

    I think I might be having the same issue with my A/C the voltage to the compressor is 4.4 volts, I check the fuses as well as the level (bought one of those wally world ac kits) and it is in the green zone on the low side, dont have a gauge for the high side. it is getting really hot and I would like to get it fixed asap. any ideas?
