Engine has two. Computer does not say which one is bad would you replace both or gamble and try one at the time and do the tubes need replacing too? Can they be cleaned?

If the MID starts with 1. its EGR #1, and if it starts with 2, then its EGR #2. Usually with a Volvo, when one EGR Valve goes bad, it isn t too much longer before the other goes out. They go bad about every 250,000-300,000 miles
curtislo Thanks this. -
Thanks they are expensive though!

My 2007 780 D12 has given me an ECU error code for the past 3.5 years. Both Volvo shops and the company shop that have looked at it asked me if I was losing power or seeing smoke out the stack (I've had an EGR go bad before, blew out smoke like nobody's business) and when I tell them no they say it is the sensor not the valve.
I've asked if the sensor can be replaced separately and I've been told no, and until I start losing power or blowing smoke not to worry about it. Truck has 625,000 miles with over 500,000 on the current pair of EGR valves (both were replaced during an unrelated engine repair job in the first 100,000 miles I had it).
Good luck,
Jimrulonwaholla and curtislo Thank this. -
Yeah mine been bad for years also. Had them replaced once for 2800 at volvo. They told me they last for 100-150k. Mine were/are stuck open so the truck would not idle rite until it was at operating temp. I rode for prob 2 yrs like that. No smoke no power loss. Now i blocked them off (ved 12 has 2) and it will idle when its cold now. Been blocked for almost a year now with no issues.
curtislo Thanks this. -
Did you notice fuel mileage cuts by blocking just curious?
