It's amazing you've got such good fuel mileage driving a Volvo like a Detroit. I'm not joking here. Probably your entire emissions system it is already messed up. If you idled, too, expect worse mpg than that.
ved12 465hp very very low mpg

Front of the engine at the top, ahead of the valve cover. There is a silicon hose, either green colored or if the paint has come off it will be a blue. It goes from the egr cooler to the intake manifold. This is the egr cross over hose. Go buy a 3/4 inch pipe plug from home-depot and stuff it in this hose. The idea is to block the hose. Be sure to use a hose clamp to hold it in place. This eliminates egr flow to your intake. It's the cheapest egr delete you will find.
mess around with your rpm. The d12 does well around 1400 - 1500. Every engine is different, so you will have to play with it. I have 3.55 rears and at 60 mph my rpm's are 1400. I was running 64mph which was 1510 rpm's and I was getting 7.5 to 8 mpg. But it dropped off after I had a new turbo fitted and the overhead ran. I'm still trying to find it again and it has become a frustrating challenge. The best I have ever got is 9.77 mpg with a 4k load running at 57 mph for 357 miles. I am happy if my fuel cost averages $0.50 per mile. Anything more than that and I will work and try different things to bring it down. -

Its easy just to plug the egrs but i dont get it cuz a lot of the time that leads to other issues with the engine we have bout 30 d12 in our fleet and took them from a 5 mpg to now almost all getting between 6.7 to 7.5 running all of us and some canada its just a matter of fixing the problems properly need to check aluminum hose coming out of turbo for leaks also i would suggest checking the vcb brake right behind the turbo that gets stuck and chokes the engine proper overhead replace boost sensor make sure both egrs are working properly. U dont have an egr problem cuz u dont have any codes so if it is something else ure just spending money for no reason with the egr delete u still will have the same result

If the exhaust gases exiting the egr cooler were hot enough to melt the iron they would be hot enough to melt the hose would they not. I have had mine plugged since January 2013, I also do oil samples and extended oil drains. I have no elevated levels of soot, iron, copper, aluminum, sodium or potassium in my latest sample. In fact my sample results showed the oil in my engine is almost as clean as when it was poured out the bottle. I have not done a full oil drain in 130k miles. The other thing about plugging that hose is that when the egr cooler cracks internally, which it will at some point, it will stop the coolant (potassium and sodium) from getting into the cylinders and then into your oil via the blow by. So it's just a good thing to do. But as posted above, you do need someone who knows the d12 to go through it a check all the areas that potentially can leak air pressure from the intake system. Also if you have cheap off brand tires that will kill you mpg. If your not running low rolling resistance tires you are giving up about 1 mpg.
