Im in a 2005 and the AC works fine when you first start out.
After about 30-45 mins. it starts to slowly get warmer.
On a really hot day it will gradually lose the battle all together,
and you gotta roll down the windows.
The blower moter sounds fine, but its not blowing as hard as when
    started,and air isn't cold.
The shop has looked at it several times, but its hard to tell them
how its acting,w/o driving the thing for about an hour.
Im not gonna go another summer roasting in this thing. You can
turn it off for about 10-15 mins and it works fine, but will fade out
    again.Thanks for any tips

Try replace the temp. control inside the A/C box 2 screws all it takes, A/c comp. should be turning off an on to keep it from frezz. up and blowing warm like its doing now.

Sounds to me like the condenser is freezing.. Keep in mind I know nothing about the Volvos, just a little bit about AC systems. I could be way off but the fact that you can shut it down for a while and it comes back. makes me think that its freezing the condenser or lines and thawing during the down time.

One of two things, check your cabin air filter it may be clogged. will stop air flow and in turn cause evaporator to freeze up. check refrigerant level. if low will cause evaporator to freeze up which will restrict airflow and do exactly as you have just described.

There is also a good chance it could be the freeze switch on the evap core, they can go bad and then it doesn't cycle the A/C compressor off when the evap core gets too cold and results in it freezing up.

    OPUS 7 Thanks this.
