Couple years back Meritor issued an industry warning about putting Super Singles on the drive axles due to bearing wear and early wheel seal leaks. This was after I had already run with these tires for a couple years, so i continued despite the warnings. I did have maybe slightly higher tendency for wheel seal leaks, but this is hard for an OO to evaluate. No big deal. But, now I have a New 2015, and I notice that Meritor has a "special" drive axle with a slightly thicker casing for Super Single users. Are they kidding? Why can't I use the tires I want, when I want? I figure the newer rear end must be more durable regardless, but this can't be a difficult problem for an engineer to solve. Super Singles are lighter than duals and the balance of bearing issue? Well, wheels and axles get pounded--Get used to it Meritor! Any way, anyone out there who swapped out duals for big tires on a newer truck?
