For Owner ops out there. How about bypassing LCM and just running relays and and a switch? I've always been curious about this.

It will also make it more reliable by taking out the LCM that could fail leaving you stranded. I still don't understand why volvo added all these electronics introducing more possible failure points. What is wrong with plain ole relays and switches. -
The right kit will not require you to 'reprogram' anything

$400 is a bit high ,in Canada the land of higher prices I paid $299.00(each) for volvo OEM head lights.Sometimes a sale price can be found for another $20 off - each.
I ripped out the oem projectors and installed HHR's kit , 2 years now and very satisfied. -

yup
one of the first I think he did, other then his own truck.
Did the install on a picnic table in a campground in Tenn.
I use my Volvo to haul a 5th rv trailer ,we are both retired from commercial service. -
The new upgraded kits he uses are different now, he eliminated the led bulb where the high beam goes and he uses a relay instead of a one way diode.
I had issues with the relay harness having a bad enough delay that one of my lights would shut off so he sent me his diode harness free of charge. He thinks maybe the delay was a little longer due to canadian temps, although it was still warm out at that time.
The big problem I have is eliminating the high beam bulb functionality because if you het pulled into a dot check stop and they see its not working they will ask and what are you going to say? Oh its ok officer, I do have a working high beam still because I illegally modified my headlights..........
I built a custom relay harness triggered by the high beam so I can still have a high beam bulb that functions, so that way when I do get checked out all will seem to be normal. -
Its legal
Dave first introduced the idea on a RV forum ,got himself grilled big time be a couple of members who are dot officers, one from Texas and the other cali I think.
They went back and forth quoting the regs and laws (FVCMSS ?) stuff I could not follow ,in the end however they were satisfied and sold me .
We all meet at a rally in crossville tn (google the video on U tube) and he sold all the kits he brought.
Just to clarify it wasn't 2 years ago ,this thread jogged my memory - it was last april not the year before -
forgive me Iam old
