No one part of a headlight is dot approved, not the projector north lenses. The dot approval covers the entire assembly and if you modify any part of that you lose the dot approval.

If I were to order another kit from him I would ask for the old kit with the diode harness and a high beam bulb. If you don't give the dot a reason to ask they won't but if your missing a high beam bulb and trying to convince the dot that it's still dot approved on the side of a highway. ..... your gonna piss him off and he'll go through your truck with a fine tooth comb and your still going to court to try and convince a judge.

I know the risks involved and don't care, I would much rather see good and risk a ticket then smash a moose I couldn't see. I don't like the trucklites as they do not project as far or wide.

Well I guess I deal with if the time comes ,my contact with the DOT should be just about nil,the truck no longer has dot numbers and is in fact now titled a motorhome - don't even get the yellow annual sticker anymore.

I have a 2015 with the new LED. I had a 2007 670 before. It is night and day difference between the two. The LED are amazing. I had some one back into me and had to get a new headlight about a month ago. One headlight cost me 1k (999.00). I think its worth it if you are upgrading.

i just bought and installed the newer kit from dave. i didnt use the little purple box for the highbeam bypass and just unplugged it and plugged the harness into my highbeam led bulbs. works fine. i have highbeams on both the projectors and led highbeams for dot compliance. works perfect and i have no open circuit warning on the dash.

HI all. I have an 07 Volvo 670 and the lights on the truck really were bad. They were Hazed over and I was going to purchase the Volvo LED assembly til I found out the price for the units. $1600 is steep, but, I though seeing at night is better then hitting a Deer or worse, Moose. Well, I decided to purchase new lens assembly. Just the simple assembly change was 10 times better than what I I had. I like to stay legal, that way, no issues. 1 less thing to worry about. Don't get me wrong, I had a Kenworth T660 with HIDs and it was great. If there is an HID kit legal, I'd like to see it/buy it.

The LEDs' listed above for 249 Hi/Low looks promising. IF it's not legal, then I might not get it. IF it can be integrated into the existing system with out legal issues, then I'm for it.

why would putting in an hid kit be illegal? we have projectors for the low beams and lots of cars have hid projectors from the factory.

Halogen projectors and hid projectors are different. Any plug and play hid kit put into a housing that was not dot approved for hid use is illegal.

whether or not they actually call you out on it may be a different story.

U need VCADs Pro. Enter Intermediate store mode and u hava limited access to level 3-4 parameters.

Enter LCM (MID 216) and change failure low current to minimum u can ore actuate HID bit (in HID mode LCM wont cheking bulbs, becoue HID ballast is actuated with relay).

Yes, but LED ore HID projector is available too, just remove low beam projector from back of lamp (no reason to remove lence) and fit LED projector.
