Looking at buying a 2010 Volvo and the trucks I'm looking at are a 780 with a Cummins engine replaced with a box engine 155000 miles ago and a 12 month warranty on it and an ultra shift or a 730 with a Volvo D13 with an I-shift with 600000 miles. I don't run heavy (only about 52000), but most loads are through the northwest and the cold of the northern plains. The trailer I haul is similar to a car hauler so when it's windy ,cross winds seem the worst my mileage my mileage really tanks from 7 down to 4.5 with my 07 Freightliner Century. So I'm looking to improve with one of the above trucks. Which would the better?

Honestly, I would not take any of above as free gift; never again a used truck automatic, doesn't matter if I-shift;
I bought last truck used with automatic transmission and wasted lots of $$$ in towing, downtime and all kind of glitches.
My truck now, Volvo 780/2008; I have Eaton 13 manual, 1,420,000 miles and the only maintenance expenses on transmission was 3 or 4 oil changes.
I would get a manual 10,13 ; are more reliable ; anyway you'll have problems with the emission system with this newer trucks, at least reduce the expenses risk with transmission; -
what engine do u have in that 2008 780?

Thank you. I am leaning towards 2012 D13 with ishift or 13 speed. My friend is a mechanic of a fleet of 4000 trucks in Portugal, since he started to work there 2 years ago, he has not seen any ishifts break down, he says its Mercedes auto trannys, which are problematic. But they dont put as many miles as trucks do here, so I am still debating. 13 speed is known to be the best, but ishift is very tempting, especially with hill assist.
