I keep reading on this site that people don't want to come to the north east area/New England, what is the reason? going into NYC with a 54 ft trailer? Does W S have many women drivers?
-
I'll never go to New England, because I lived in MA for 10 years and had enough of the massholes.BlueThunderr Thanks this. -
Greetings American Trucker!
I've spent ALOT of time over the last month researching companies and also researching O/O avenues. I went to a 172 hour school (Allstate - great instructors; junk trucks) and have a class A w/ all the endorsements. Since 2005, I've owned a landscape/hardscape business and am passing it onto my 2 sons and am ready for a new career. Trucking school came easy and I can run any piece of equipment, from excavators to backhoes. I believe I have the ability to "manage" the O/O aspects and also able to purchase a truck. I'm pre-hire w/ Watkins & Shepard and once I take care of some personal things could be in the NC site for the 10-day orientation. Now, with all that aside, can you please reply to a few questions:
1) SHOULD I jump into this career as an O/O; probably flatbed?
2) What can I REALLY earn a week. The website links and the recruiters say one thing, what's the truth?
3) I believe you are a company driver, right? Why won't YOU do the O/O thing?
Thanks in advance for your reply and take care, -
Try working as a company driver first and learn the industry. There's a lot more to it than buying and just driving. That's why a lot of these guys on here are company drivers since W/S generally hires mostly fresh out of school rooks.

Work as a company driver first, but drive it like you own it, keeping track of the expenses involved. Then decide if you want to go O/O.
