Hoping someone can help me with this...as my username shows I have a 89 4964f. The windshield wiper pivot cover is missing and the pivot itself is seized up internally and beat up pretty bad.

Anyways after many blank stares answer 1.5hr at midway ford sterling(didn't have a complete book) the cover isn't available and the pivot itself, but which he thinks he can get is very expensive. Anybody have a lead on parts for this old dog?
Need switches/wiring for the dash too if any info is available on them...thanks in advance. Parts guy said when Freightliner took over WS parts tripled? :biggrin_25513:

Try a search under "parts for old western star." Looks like there are a few websites on them, and good luck!

I have a 98 4964FX that needed new wiper arms in June of 2012. These arms had a nut that held them in place on the splined pivot, I think your 89 must be the same. Come to find out these arms were discontinued and no longer available anywhere. In order to replace the arms, you also have to replace the pivots to the new design ones that are similar to most automotive styles. These slide over the splined pivot and are held in place by a sliding clip from underneath. If you have a pivot that is seized, you will have to change both sides to the new style. My original linkage and motor hooked up to the new pivots with no problem. The easiest way to access the pivot on the drivers side is to undo and pull back the drivers gauge panel. Behind this, you will find the ECM that's bolted to the firewall. You need to unbolt it and pull it back enough to access the pivot. The large nut that holds the pivot in place is accessible from the firewall on the engine side.
Pop the linkage off the ball on the pivot before undoing the nut. Just be VERY CAREFUL when you bolt the ECM back in place not to pinch any wires behind it and the firewall. I pinched a wire here and ended up with a dead short later on that way difficult to find. For the passenger side, I found the easiest way was to remove the plastic heater ducts under the dash, and that gives you access to the pivot on that side. The part numbers that you will need are as follows:
Quantity 2- FTL A22-62211-000 W/S wiper arm WStar
Quantity 1- FTL A22-62213-000 pivot W/S wiper LH
    Quantity 1 - FTL A22-62214-000 pivot W/S wiper RH
    Quantity 2 - FTL 22-61587-000 seal washer
    Quantity 2 - FTL SPR.C.2157 washer
    Quantity 2 - FTL SPR.C2154.2 hex nut
Quantity 2 - FTL 22-61775-000 weather seal cap
This conversion has worked out beautifully and has run with no trouble since 2012. After I completed this repair,I saw that someone on this forum had a source for the old style wiper arms, if you run a search you probably can find it.Its most likely a good idea to replace the pivots to the newer style, you can't really do without dependable wipers. Switches are all still available through the dealer, I've replaced several on mine. If you have a particular one you need, I might be able to come up with a part no. to lead you in the right direction. Good luck!

Thanks very much. Will call tomorrow for parts and pricing. I do have the bolt on style, looks prettyvstraight forward job. No ecm on this old beast. I will check on switches tomorrow also, need quite a few. Previous owner really damaged switch wiring adding and combining switches. I have no lights on any switches or labels I need to work on if your knowledgeable on those?
Thanks again guys, you make this avery knowledgeable and informative site

My question would be, do you both know how different the cabs and parts are for a 1989 F model western star and a 1998 FX Western Star? The FX (constellation) cab has almost no part commonality with the older F (heritage) cab. I just worry you might order parts that work for the "new" cab, and might not work in the "old" cab. As always, good luck.

It may more may not be a shot in the dark. The freightliner parts gentleman seemed more knowledgeable than the WS/Ford guy and he thought it would work. At thus point there are few options as I have exhausted all of them I know of and have been searching/talking/phone calls for col weeks now.
If I can get the pivots to work I can modify other parts. Maybe this is why the previous owner did his own modifications.LOL.
