Took my drug test with YRC three weeks ago. They say background takes 2 wks after that. Its been 3 wk and I haven't heard a peak from them. It took another company 1 wk after drug test. I'm glad I found out about YRC before getting hired.

YRC is very fussy at times about what they want in a driver. I applied and took the job knowing what the company is about. Although I do enjoy it, I'm pissed about getting bumped two spots down and getting layed off

I guess it was a blessing in disguise because I can't afford not to work full time. With the senority and slow downs in the winter, I wouldv'e been in big trouble.

Does that include the 15% consessions? Or are you guys back to 100%?

Ok guys, first of all I want to apologize for not being around as much as I should. Secondly, I wanna tell you a little more about working for Yrc Freight. I started with this company 10 years ago with Roadway Express in Columbus, OH. I worked there for a few years as a road driver working on what is called the "Extra Board". What is the extra board you ask? well I'll do my best to explain it to you. At YRC we have two different type of runs. First is a bid. That is a designated location or terminal you will go to every time you work and this run can only be obtained by your seniority or years of service with the company. second is the extra board. When there is more than one load going to a terminal and not enough "bid men" this load will be handed down to the extra board. The dispatcher will call you and offer you this load or any other loads they have available at your time of dispatch. Some terminals can and will call you after you have been off duty for 8 hours because after you are called you have 2 hours in which to show up for work thus giving you your full 10 hours off per: DOT. some terminals can only call you in what is called a "Call Block" which is typically every 6 hours therefore giving the driver more time at home with his family. The next terminalI worked out of was Dayton, Oh. and held my first bid. It was a glorious time!!!!! No more waiting by the phone wondering if I was gonna go to work or not. I had a scheduled time start and a guaranteed day off each and every week. The bid I was on consisted of me running 3,246 miles every week. I worked there for a few years as well. Then in 2009 when the merger between Yellow and Roadway occurred I transferred to Iron Mountain, Mi. and worked there for 3 years also holding a bid but only ran 2200 miles a week but that was ok as my cost of living there was very very cheap. In April of this year I was once again transferred and this time I went to a terminal I knew I would never have to transfer out of again. Chicago, IL. I'll get to what it's like there in my next post.
