Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced that it is issuing a recall on 164,317 FreightLiner Cascadia trucks for an issue with the braking system that potentially increase the risk of a crash.
According to the recall notice and accompanying documentation, the issue seems to be caused by chemical corrosion on the right brake modulator valve. This can cause the release timing to be slower than it should be, potentially causing the truck to pull to the right while braking.
DNTA says that they expect that only about 1% of the recalled trucks might be affected by the issue. Still, the owners of over 160,000 model year 2017-2021 Cascadias will be notified. DTNA will perform the repairs free of charge.
The recall will begin August 30th, 2020.
