The latest news in the saga of Jabin Bogan, the US trucker who’s being held in a Mexican jail, is that he may be allowed to leave… if he pays a fine.
Bogan was arrested by Mexican police when he took a wrong turn hauling ammunition near the border and ended up in Mexico. Mexican courts charged him with trafficking weapons since he crossed the border with a load of 268,000 rounds of surplus ammunition headed to Phoenix, AZ. When even Mexican customs officials corroborated with Bogan’s story, the charge was reduced to possession. Bogan has been held in a maximum security prison since April. With massive pressure being put on Mexican authorities to release him, it seems that they’ve settled on a way to do it.
El Norte newspaper in Mexico is reporting that Mexican officials are saying that they may release him if he pays $1,500. Since there is absolutely no precedent for making an innocent man pay a fine for a crime that he has not been proven guilty of, this “fine” essentially just amounts to a bribe. Bogan may have trouble raising the cash as his company, Demco Express, was shut down by the FMCSA back in May.

Ya know, if this had been some hiker that “accidentally” crossed the Iranian border after being told not to do it then is subsequently arrested for doing so, then our government would have stepped in and raised holy hell with Iran for their release. It would have been all over every news agency in the world, but I guess since it was just a truck driver then nobody gives a crap. If this guy is innocent then what is going on? Too busy with trying to get re-elected to care? Somebody, and I won’t mention the name of the man who just won his re-election, needs to step up and get this guy home if he is in fact innocent. And a $1500 fine? What, are they charging him for his room and board for all the time they have had him kidnapped? Jeez-Louise!!
question i have is how do you accidentally cross into mexico
it’s as easy as making a wrong turn just like it says he did. i once did the same thing going into Nogalas, AZ. i.passed my exit, and first thing i notice was i was in line to cross the boarder into Mexico. so it’s a easy mistake to make if you never been close to the boarder. i had a load of liquor on board at that. thank God i found away to turn around.
He made a wrong turn and couldn’t find any where to turn around. Thank GOD I was fortunate didn’t have any issues When I accidently crossed the border into Mexico in 2007
This driver got lost near El Paso. He took a wrong turn and when he went to the border, an offical told him he could turn around. This put him in Mexico. That is when his life went south….so to speak. I agree with the first writer, our President should be putting pressure on the Mexican government. He has been there too long. And why didn’t his company take some responsibility…..did they lose their BALLS!!!!!
$1’500 just to go free? That is bribery, it did state he made a wrong turn and his company folded a month later. Here is a PRIME example of the United State Government going to the rescue of one of its own, way slower than what Katrina did to New Orleans, La.
The media isn’t investing heavily in this one… why should the President be involved in each and every dispute at the border?
This is Mexican justice?? Lets ban ALL their trucks from the U.S. Or “fine’ each of their trucks for safety issues. Have you ever seen the crap they drive?
“When even Mexican customs officials corroborated with Bogan’s story, the charge was reduced to possession.”
Hmm, the charge was reduced to possession, but the article does no say if he was actually convicted of that charge, nor does it say whether they just completely dropped all charges.
So, how does this article arrive at the “innocent” part?
But, as with most stories coming out of Mexico, it seems the almighty dollar rears it powerful head.
I would pay the $1500 for the man guilty or not! If the site will email me with a way to contact the right people I promise will cut a check for the man’s release.
We cannot allow these governments to continue to devour freedom on EITHER side of the border.
Just ran it by my wife and she agrees that it would be a well spent $1500!
Bryan
Not to mention the reckless ways they drive those crap trucks on OUR side of the Rio.
How do you cross the border by accident?
Perhaps ya’ll should study the case a little closer.
Bogan was found guilty on September 12, 2012 of simple “possession” of ammunition by a 5th District Judge in Cd. Juarez. The same Judge that reduced the charges after the Mexican Customs officials testified to what they thought was Bogans intent.
And Bogan is guilty as charged and of what he was convicted of. Possession…. The “how’s and why’s of how he got into Mexico are beside the point. And many many people out there do not think this was a mistake, myself included, considering Bogan’s lengthy criminal history and other factors including an admission Bogan supposedly made to investigators 2 days after his arrest where he admitted to “going to meet two men in Juarez”
Try to keep an open mind on this folks because there will be more unbelievably fantastical stories coming from Bogan once he is on this side of the border.
It is customary to carry bribe money when entering Mexico. I was told this in 97 when I was in the Military and we went to San Diego. The care package was $100 dollar bill if stopped by the local police back then. I didn’t understand a lick of Spanish back then; but was told to pull out the $100.00 bill and he would smile take the money and walk away.
This did come in handy when caught taking a piss behind the building of a club in Tijuana Mexico 3 days later; when a cop jumped out the back of a pickup on us. There was 3 of us and 4 of them. We pulled out the care package they took the money; hopped into the truck again and drove off. Real True story!
