Another 115 Arizona transportation department workers will get the axe due to money woes.
The layoffs are expected starting this week, continuing through the end of the year, said department director John Halikowski. Most will affect employees of the Motor Vehicles Division. The department has reduced its staff by about 10 percent, or 480 staffers.
Arizona DOT (ADOT) also plans to close most of the state’s rest areas, reduce highway maintenance and shut down a dozen offices of the MVD. The cuts are a response to dwindling funds due to budget transfers and dwindling revenue off fuel taxes.
