Practice Tests and Studying for your CDL: Tank Truck Endorsement Test
If you have been driving trucks for awhile and have been limited because you don’t have all of the endorsements on your CDL it may be time to make a change. If you want to haul tankers or have the dream of hauling tankers you need the tank truck endorsement on your CDL. The rules of the road are getting more and stricter all the time and most companies will not employ you if you do not have this and other endorsements. In the past you would find that there were companies who would make an exception because they knew you were a hard worker. Today, litigation and legislation really have made it so that companies cannot employ you if you do not have the necessary endorsements. So, do yourself a favor and study for the test and take it so you can get the endorsements that you need to further your career or even get started on what could be a new exciting and lucrative career.
Why You Need to Take the Test
You may think because you have been around tank trucks for long enough that you don’t need to take the endorsement test because you know everything that you need to know. You may be surprised by just how much you don’t know when it comes to current safety standards. You may know how to take care of certain things but you may not do them in the right manner. Knowing how to do your job not only effectively but also safely is important. This is what you will learn when you take your tank truck endorsement test. While it may just seem like nothing more than formality, it is an important part of being the best truck driver that you can be.
Finding Study Materials
Even if you have been in the trucking industry for years you shouldn’t go into the test blind. In other words, you do need to take some time to study. You will find that there is a wealth of information that will allow you to do as well as possible on the test the first time you take it. Many people assume that they know everything and take the test without studying at all. This usually results in a failing grade which will require further testing and another investment. Finding and using study materials is essential.
Your local motor vehicle department is a great place to start looking for study materials. Most states have their own version of the test so you might want to check with them first so you know exactly what you need to learn. Their study guides may be free or you may need to pay a small sum for them. Regardless, they are probably worth their weight in gold because they will provide you with all of the information that you could possibly find on the test. Call or visit your local motor vehicle department to inquire about a study guide for this endorsement.
The internet is a great place to find study materials for your endorsement test. The internet really has changed the way we do business today because there isn’t anything you can’t find on it! Search for information for your states test and see what you can find. You will probably be able to find a wealth of free information and then you can pick and choose what paid information is the best for your needs. There will likely be a lot to choose from, so focus on those that are going to give you the biggest bang for your buck. Also choose those that have the most recently created information so you are studying the most relevant information possible.
The library and the bookstore are also great resources for information. You will likely find a wealth of written content that will provide you with all of the information you have ever wanted to know about to pass this specific endorsement test. Just be sure that you are concentrating on finding resources that have been published in the last three to five years. The older the information it is the less relevant it is going to be because standards change over time. Using older resources may misguide you despite your best efforts.
Practice Tests: Setting Yourself Up For Success
If you are of the mindset that you do not need to take practice tests you will be doing yourself a disservice. It doesn’t matter how long you have been trucking or how much you think you know, putting it all on paper is different. You need to study a lot and then you need to take as many practice tests as possible to see what you know and what you could still improve upon.
The great thing about practice tests is that they will give you a sampling of the questions that you will be asked on the real tests. You’ll get an idea of what you will need to know for the test and when you get the results you’ll see what you need to study specifically and what you still need to work on. When you can focus your studying efforts on the areas where you are not doing well you’ll likely see much better test results in the long run.
How many practice tests should you take? You should take as many as you need until you feel comfortable. Additionally, you should keep taking the tests until you score upwards of 80% on the test. For some people they may need to take three practice tests and for others it may take ten or more practice tests. There is no right or wrong number to take, you should just keep taking them until you feel comfortable and you are consistently getting passing grades.
A good rule of thumb is to always take three practice tests. This will expose you to more sample questions and will also allow you to really get a feel for how you will do on the test. If you have test anxiety you will benefit from passing these practice tests because it will boost your confidence and allow you to do better on the test. If you take the three practice tests and you pass all of them with an 80% or above you should be in good shape and you should do well enough to pass the test and get your CDL endorsement.
Passing the Test
When you go in to take the endorsement test you should ensure that the night before you have gotten plenty of sleep. You also want to make sure that you eat a balanced meal ahead of time and that you feel confident in your ability to pass the test. Most states require that you score an 80% or above on the test to get your endorsement, so the bottom line is that you need to know and be able to answer 80% of the questions correctly to get your endorsement. This is where all of those practice tests and all of the sample questions will come in handy…because after all of the practice you should be ready! Once you pass the test you’ll have your endorsement and you can really expand your horizons in terms of jobs that you will be eligible for.

I’m coming back to hauling haz-mats and tankers, and I stumbled across this great website!!!!!
I re-took 10 quizes on gral knowledge until I got a 100, then I took 5 quizes after studying my MI CDL Book, then I passed 2 tank tests with 90% on tankers.
I’m working on my haz-mat now, so I can get my endorsement X back, after 12 years I’m coming back to tankers.
Once again, this is as close as you can get to the state computer test………………………great site.

This site has been a real good help for passing exams. I have my new drivers study this when I get them in, and then I take them over to DMV, and they pass. I know it is a good tool. Try it, Use It, Make it happen. The best course of study is to take the test, then go back over the missed ones, memorize them, then go back to the book and find out what it says about those subjects that you need to know in order to pass the exam. I recommend even trying this out Prior to reading the book, so that you will know what you are seeking while reading the entire book. Then when you pass that subject then you will know what to look for from your total recall of the previous event of that particular question popping into your head. Also, if you do start by reading the book entirely, take the test’s from here next, then go back to the book again. Do this 4 or more times. Do it until you score 100 on this exam every time. Then take this exam several times. Maybe four times. It sometimes changes the questions, and you start getting other questions that may show up on the real one.
Good Luck.

I have been studying to get my CDL Class A license. These tests helped me out tremendously! I would not only just try and memorize the answers to the quizzes, but the ones you get wrong, look it up in the book and really get to know it better. Trust me, It will help you in the long run! Only got my Tanker test left to do and I only missed 1 questions on the other tests! Thank you Truckers Report.
