It’s almost time for the largest CMV enforcement blitz of the year. Get ready for International Roadcheck and don’t be one of the tens of thousands who find themselves put out of service!
This year’s International Roadcheck is scheduled for May 4th-6th. It is sponsored by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA). Law enforcement and compliance officers throughout North America will take part in the inspection blitz.
During the 3-day event, CMV inspectors will perform tens of thousands of Level I inspections. In addition to the standard inspections, every year Roadcheck places an additional emphasis on one specific aspect of compliance. This year, inspectors will actually have TWO focus areas: Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and vehicle lighting.
This means that minor lighting issues that might normally go unnoticed or result in a warning could instead mean that your rig is parked until the issue gets taken care of.
Last year there were 50,151 inspections conducted as part of the Roadcheck program. Of those, 12,254 vehicles were placed OOS for equipment violations. That’s almost a 25% OOS rate. This doesn’t even include the 3,247 truckers who were placed OOS for driver violations.
Get that maintenance taken care of, keep your head on a swivel and the shiny side up!
