Elmer Buchta Trucking filed for bankruptcy on the heels of Yellow Corp leaving tens of thousands of drivers in the lurch. The mid-sized operation had been in business for 85 years, employing about 100 truckers to run its 236 power unit operation. Reports of the financial crisis made splashy headlines. But the good news is the Indiana-based outfit reportedly seeks bankruptcy “reorganization,” meaning the doors will remain open.
“By restructuring our debt, we are empowering ourselves to make significant investments in a top-of-the-line newer fleet, thereby strengthening our offerings and staying ahead of industry standards. This strategic move allows us to not only meet the ever-evolving demands of our customers but also position ourselves as leaders in the industry,” according to a company statement. “We would like to emphasize publicly that there will be no layoffs at our company. In fact, we are looking to increase our staffing by more than 20 percent in the coming months.”
5 Transition Trucker Finalists Announced
A program recognizing the top rookie military driver recently announced the 2023 finalists. Fastport, in conjunction with Kenworth and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Hiring Our Heroes program, put forward five truckers following a rigorous selection process for the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence award.
“Transportation is an industry focused on serving community and giving back so is a natural fit for military veterans looking to continue their careers on a service-oriented mission,” Eric Eversole, U.S. Chamber of Commerce vice president and Hiring Our Heroes president, reportedly said. “Hiring Our Heroes is proud to partner with Fastport and Kenworth to promote the hiring of more service members into the trucking industry.”
For the eighth consecutive year, Kenworth will reportedly present a big rig to the winner. This year’s semi is expected to be the T680 Signature Edition Diamond VIT, valued at approximately $200,000. These are the remaining candidates to take home the award, honor, and brand new tractor for successfully transitioning from military life to the trucking industry.
