Kenworth Truck Co. kicked off its yearlong celebration of 100 years in business, founded by Harry Kent and Edgar Worthington on Jan. 26, 1923. The company, now a brand of Paccar Inc., has produced over 1.3 million Classes 5-8 trucks and 78 were made in its first year. General Manager Kevin Baney said at a press event on Feb. 15, “We are super excited to be part of the team that gets to celebrate Kenworth’s 100 years. We have a lot of celebrations planned throughout the year.” A signature anniversary truck model has also been released.
“The mission was to provide custom trucks for customers, originating in the Northwest around logging,” Baney said. “The innovative spirit is alive today, tackling regulatory changes and disruptions, including the production of the C500 6 × 6 with its million-pound gross combination weight rating and battery-electric vehicles. We see challenges as opportunities, providing solutions beyond the product to processes and overall transportation solutions – we’re excited about the future. But back to this year, we get to be the team to celebrate.”
We think about all the employees who have made Kenworth a strong brand over the decades, and we know there’ll be more to carry Kenworth forward. The Kenworth W900 Limited Edition and the T680 Signature Edition Diamond VIT were introduced as part of the celebration. We celebrated with our internal teams and dealers at our annual meeting, and celebrated both the hundred years and key milestones our dealers are having.
Kenworth plans to celebrate throughout the year, including at trade shows, customer meetings, public engagement events and a parade near its Kirkland, Wash. headquarters.
