The nearly $500 billion, multi-year highway funding bill has passed the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. It has moved on to the House where it already has over 50 amendments. One of which hopes to delay the implementation of the Hours of Service reform rule.
The spending bill is being called the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act. Over the course of five years, the bill allots $494 billion for investments in highways, bridges, truck parking, and other surface transportation infrastructure.
“For far too long, Congress has taken a pass on trying to solve the toughest problems plaguing our surface transportation system, allowing it to limp along and fall farther and farther behind the rest of the world,” Congressman Peter DeFazio said according to Fleetowner. “That all changes with the INVEST in America Act, transformational legislation that moves our country into a new era of smarter, safer, more resilient infrastructure that fits our changing economy and society.”
But the bill passed the Transportation and Infrastructure committee along party lines. And Republicans in the House seem to have the same opinion of the bill as those on the committee. They criticize it as the Green New Deal in disguise. Republicans are unhappy that the bill has funding increases for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, public transportation, and building infrastructure that will be able to withstand extreme weather made increasingly common by climate change.

Hmmm i noticed the article didnt identify what party DeFazio is? But if he said something anti trucking. There would have been a big ole (D) right after his name.

what changes are they implementing regarding our HOS rules?? no mention of that in the article.mmm
MrYowler says
That has been previously covered in other articles on this and other sites. Covering it here (again) would distract from what this article is trying to cover.

Why are there 50 amendments and what are they? This article tells us nothing, not even a bill number or link to it, as usual.

Paragraph 2. “Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America (INVEST in America) Act.
Most of the “amendments” are for things totally unrelated to this bill’s alleged purpose. It’s how pork barrel spending gets done. “You vote for my amendment to add a pork barrel, unconstitutional project to benefit my district and help me buy votes for re-election and I’ll do the same for you when you need to buy votes.”
Joe says
I got the name thanks. Im not a reporter, providing a link to the bill would be basic journalism is what I was getting at.

I understand “postal roads” is one of 18 things federal government MUST do, however we need to figure out how to get asmuch as possible away from fed and turned over to states. That alone would cut cost of all projects 10-15%
Jude Ossowski says
One good step would be a repeal of the law requiring union pay rates/rules for all projects. Union rules call for seven people to supervise on guy leaning on a shovel watching another guy use a backhoe. (Tell me you haven’t seen that.) That’s ridiculous. Reduce the size of the crews. Increase the expected output. Reduce the overall cost.

I agree with you totally. Why should these jobs have to be bid out as union pay when most of the time the workers arent union involved ?
This ridiculous idea of having to pay union scale is what drives up the cost of business and waste of tax dollars. Its an old practice that took hold when unions were strong and had clout that has now run its course and needs to be eliminated. If I was running a business I would want the most bang for my buck, not overpay for the same work or job. But I guess when the government has all the money they want, our tax dollars, they dont care how its wasted.

Government is nothing but filthy hypocrite you make me sick our paycheck is your income you morons
MrYowler says
Begs the question who the morons really are… But do you seriously think that the people you are ranting at, are on this forum reading your rant?
Addressing them directly is like complaining to a Nigerian email scammer about his lack of ethics. They just sit in a big circle in some cybercafe in Lagos and laugh, while they order crap from Amazon on your credit card.
No amount of indignation from you is going to make them the least bit sorry.
