Less than 12 weeks from the compliance date for the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) rule, OOIDA has put together a coalition to try and push for a postponement. Most members of the coalition aren’t in the transportation industry, but instead recognize that their own industries could be dramatically impacted by a disruption to their supply-chains.
The Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) has been fighting against the mandatory ELD rule tooth and nail from the very beginning. OOIDA has brought lawsuits and appeals, lobbied Congress, and now has rallied 30 other groups under their banner to try and push for a last-ditch implementation delay.
Other members of the coalition include groups which range from the National Association of Small Trucking Companies, to the Livestock Exporters Association, to Lucas Oil Products, to the National Federation of Independent Business, to the American Pyrotechnics Association.
“The electronic logging device mandate is written so broadly that it has far-reaching implications well beyond the traditional trucking industry,” said executive VP of OOIDA, Todd Spencer, in a statement.
Fleetowner reports that the Agricultural Retailers Association, one of the coalition members, is concerned that many businesses won’t be prepared in time to meet the compliance deadline. Richard Gupton, Senior VP of public policy for the ARA worried that “ELD manufacturers may not be able to accommodate existing Hours of Service exemptions currently being utilized by agricultural retailers and distributors.”
The coalition as a whole claims that the ELD rule will cost businesses upwards of $2 billion, but won’t provide any improvement to safety, productivity, or profitability. They are throwing their support and hopes behind a H.R. 3282, known as the ELD Extension Act of 2017.
Proposed by Rep. Brian Babin, H.R. 3282 wouldn’t overturn the ELD rule, but instead delay the compliance date for two years. The bill currently has at least 45 co-sponsors, but it hasn’t seen any forward progress through a notoriously slow Congress in months. It was moving so slowly that Rep. Babin even tried putting an amendment onto a different bill that would have delayed the ELD mandate, but that amendment was voted down by a large margin.
For all the concerns about whether or not the industry will be ready for the change, some groups are pushing back against the delay anyway. The ATA for example claimed that the only reason to oppose the ELD rule is “because they intend to cheat on their hours of service” and to “evade compliance with the existing laws and regulations.”
In an interview with Heavy Duty Trucking, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Truckload Carrier’s Association, David Heller, claimed that the remaining 12 weeks gives carriers more than enough time to get ready.
“Congress has voted numerous times and as recently as a few days ago to require ELDs,” added Lane Kidd, managing director for the Trucking Alliance.
Below is a complete list of the coalition members pushing for the ELD delay:
- Agricultural Retailers Association
- American Pipeline Contractors Association
- American Pyrotechnics Association

They have a good cause for concern. I use to drive a truck. I trim trees now. For a tree trimming company. I asked them about their plan on installing elds in the trucks. They tried saying they don’t have to. It was clear they didn’t know about the mandate. That’s when I said , you must check into it completely. As I understand it. Only emergency, government, military, and concrete pump trucks are excluded. Everyone else must install it or face going outta business.they just looked at me with the oh crap look. So I imagine tree trimming companies will be joining the fight. Along with logging companies. Along with several others. Once the figure out how it impacts them.
Your trucks fall under weight limit that are required to get them
If y’all don’t go farther than 150 air mile radius, and start/end your tour/shift at the same place, you’re exempt from ELD’s.
When you have college educated idiots in charge of making laws, they only know 9 to 5 work and they go home for cocktails and supper, just wait till theirs no food to buy or booze for cocktails, Trucks move everything and its time for them to know it, boycotts will cause no fuel or food on the shelf!
america comes to a screechin halt, wake up!
I agree with you, Johnny. I’m for a two or three day shutdown. The hardest thing is organization. Maybe a centralized social network for truck drivers. Is there one?
Only the Oil industry totally shall shut down for 2 weeks straight. That will shut everything down.
Hell let’s make government install them on their persons and start regulating the hell out of them anytime any part of their body moves it logs them as off duty
Why not they are getting our tax dollars it makes perfect sense to request e-log on there phone so they can see how it fills to have a computer to dictate your every move. Technology is slowly taking over the country making us more vulnerable and dependent on technology but it will break and guess what you have to do till it’s fix “paper log” so let’s be honest what is this really about money and greedy people taking advantage of opportunity to put something in place to collect a lot of money not caring about people who been doing this since before they probably was born the good gotta suffer for the bad it’s ridiculous…!!!
I agree, looks more like a money grab more than safety. You can always tell if someone has elogs, they’re speeding through construction zones, towns, truck stop parking lots and drive like complete idiots in town. All because they’re rushed through the day because they have a time limit for the day.
That is a good idea. That idiot Trump spend 1/3 of his time on golf courses!! Using public dollars to finance the entire thing at Mar Lago and Trump Tower. He also got elected on getting rid of legislation that impedes business. He has just approved a tax break for corporations and the wealthy to assist in creating jobs. Good idea but throwing trucking under the bus is not. If ever there was a piece of legislation that was designed to impeded business and the wheels – literally – that it runs on ELDS are it !! At least somebody had the common sense to kill the speed limiters.
ATA president & CEO needs to shut and go away. Every knows the ATA is just as crooked if not more. I know first hand because my ex used to work for them. He’s probably being paid by the 5 mega carriers that have some of the worse drivers in the industry. Companies who cheat should have them. We all know Werner was forced to have ELDs installed by in the 90’s because of their behavior. Maybe 1996? However, stop badmouthing good drivers. Until you’ve been behind the wheel of a big rig, is knowledgeable and experienced, you should keep your idiotic comments to yourself. Worry about corruption in the ATA and stay of the pockets of the mega carrier.
Anyone who knows anything about trucking will agree with this statement 100 percent .
Greasing the hands of politicians for their own good! The same kind of underhanded crap big corporate interests pulled on the independent dairy farmers. Put them out of business pushing for mandates the small farmer could never achieve.
Werner funded the development of Qualcom.
So they could keep an eye on their people because they don’t trust them with good reason. If all you hire are inexperienced, brain dead dummies with a 2 day driving degree then that’s all your going to have. Because most likely 95 % of them will have quit or gotten a sooo many tickets they were forced out.
Anyone who says they can’t make money or there business will be impacted because of Elogs is really saying they have been cheating all along! I’ve personally been on Elogs since 2010 and make more money because I’m better rested and not camped out being a truckstop cowboy. Yes they make you have to trip plan and actually do your job within the law. I am ashamed of OOIDA for and will be be renewing my membership!
Thanks LR
Sometimes laws and regulations are for our good. I will be trucking this winter for the first time. I plan to do everything by the book as I have always done in other aspects of my life. It actually takes more effort and time to operate illegally. It takes far less effort to do the right thing. And let’s suppose, for arguments sake, that it does take more effort to operate legally. Then in your heart you know you are doing the right thing and no one, not even the DOT can fault you. It’s just easier. Work as if you are working for The Lord and you will prosper.
Just because you would prefer paper logs doesn’t mean that you cheat and operate illegally.
Really? But I’m sure they give you back your hours later on in the week that you were sitting in traffic. Be a $500 dollar a week company puppet!
I agree. It’s time to stand up for our rights. Let’s force the government to start looking at their selves. The corruption in our government needs to be investigated and brought to justice. Like the senators flying around on tax payers money. I don’t know about you but I’m angry.
I think we need to fight this. Not only are the government trying to control us. The senators are flying on tax payers money. I’m angry about that.
Personally I don’t see a reason to postpone the mandate. Everyone has known about this a good two years. Some of these drivers need to be removed off the road. It took some adjustment but after some time, I like ELDs. I plan my day around it and it keeps brokers and dispatchers from asking favors that push you past your HOS. If ELDs aren’t for you than maybe it’s time for another job. It’s not about control, it’s about public safety and if one can’t grasp that idea than he/she is definitely in the wrong business.
You are Wright driver I like the e logs to so these companies can’t DOG you I want to see go through I have work for a lot of companies that force you to run illegally and this is the first companie I have work for that uses them that treats you good
Safety..?.. Right, !! ELOGS are taking our freedom of choice and making drivers race time. Not safe.! If you want or need Elogs that’s your choice, not mine! This is America , our rights, started driving in 1988, I know what it is to be a truck driver , relax and enjoy the screens and delivery the goods and have fun along the way down the road, not being controlled and told my every move.. can’t even drive my own dam truck if I want to, with Elogs you don’t own it anymore! The DOT does.. you just pay for it.. there’s no talking to people that like Elogs because they either lost the meaning of being a Truck Driver or never had it…
Separation of church and state. I’ll just pay the fine. I haven’t been D.O.T. ed in over 3 years!
Maybe the tech company should fix another way to line their pockets! There is a big difference between 1500 dollars a week and 500 dollars a week. As a owner operator I gross 10,000 for the week. You stay poor on elogs. How do you think the large carriers made their money! They ran paper logs.
Why don’t they put something like a ELD on a Car cause I know people who’s driven strait for 15 hours and you think that’s dangerous? They think by adding a ELD is going to help . Sure they will park and log off but do they really go to sleep . They might get a few hours but then they hit the road and there still tired. For the most part it’s just to get more money for the ELD companies. And for those politicians who’s never driven , get your A** in a truck and drive 600 + miles and try to make a living. But of course we’re no one it will just fall on deaf ears . And don’t cry when the products that we deliver start to raise in prices .
They must want old produce that will kill half of the town. Once you sign the bills it’s yours.
If you currently are required to log your hours on a paper, record of duty status, you are required to change to an electronic log, or electronic on-board recording device, by Dec 17th 2017. FMCSA has delayed enforcement of non-compliance by not issuing any OOS orders until April of 2018, but they can still issue citations.
The key here is that if you currently are required to log, then you will need an electronic log.
You are exempt if you operate within 100 air miles, or if your truck does not meet the standards set by FMCSA, i.e. truck is too old to support the requirements.
Our company installed e-logs in all of our trucks. We ended up going with TeleTrac Navman. I had previously tested the KeepTruckin app, which is the easiest and cheapest solution if you need an out-of-the-box solution right now and cannot afford, or do not want to purchase any hardware.
TeleTrac had the most options for the best price.
Tele Trac won’t make 1 dollar off of me. I’d rather pay the fine. The Eld mandate won’t make it Dec. 18th. Don’t even waste your time!
The stupid thing about pushing for ELD is they think they will solve the cheating so to speak… having a MIS.,, (Masters degree in Information Systems ) I know for a fact that it will be easier to manipulate data to ensure driver compliance using ELD. Hackers easily manipulate technology now…. what makes them think this will be any different…. stupidity in thinking systems are already being created to manipulate the system so drivers are 100% in compliance no matter what really is going on…. it’s hilarious to think this is going to eliminate driving over limits. Those who choose to misuse the system will only resort to other methods…. billions spent for nothing. Granted it does save personal going over mountains of paper logs.,..in reality it’s government trying to control the industry.
Yep..big brother riding shotgun and Mega Carriers trying to push us independent drivers out!! Can’t believe how many people are agreeing to give up to this, whatca gonna do when they start controlling your TV, and what you wear, ?. Look at the big picture, Government Control..Man VS the Machine!!! Come on Drivers, Let’s stick together on this, you can sleep 10 hours on paper, your still free.!! Grow a pair of Balls and stand up to the dispatcher and for your rights!! Let’s Strike
The ELD mostly buffers and drivers have to use paper logs anway!
After some hard thinking I say Put them in! Get paid to sit when getting loaded by the minute! As an independent i want this to happen. We only “play” with the book when we sit at docks hours and hours and have to make up time to make the delivery. Get paid for every minute getting loaded and off loaded. Problem solved. No more free time. Tell the customer look we have to charge now because of the ELDs. Make the ELD work for you. Put up your rates. If everyone stops donating their lives sitting around we wouldn’t be so worried in the first place.
You have a very valid point there ! ! !
These ELD’s really affect the independents. The big boys, Werner etc., will just hire more “wheel holders” at 26 cents per mile, and ultimately Mexicans.
I recently ran into a company from East L.A. that had three Mexicans living in a truck, literally, driving back and forth between east and west coasts. The English speaker said they only stop for fuel and pottie breaks…..
That’s why we need E-logs. That is illegal as hell.
Yes that might be true but WE DON’T NEED ELOGS
I can read and write,so why would I need an ELD. I’m not gonna stop my money,we can just go to court, and my lawyer will reduce the fine,so I will make tens of thousands until the next incident. My truck is under audit. Lol
The Indies are also doing it.
I don’t call them steering wheel holders I call them seat warmers
I partially agree that the shippers and receivers should be accountable for the time we waste at the dock.
I disagree that it’s necessary to play with the hours in order to deliver on time.
I’m not independent so it may be different. All I do is contact Dispatch let them know an ETA thanks to shipper delay original appointment isn’t going to happen. They contact the customer and most of the time the appointment gets changed.
Greasing the hands of politicians for their own good! The same kind of underhanded crap big corporate interests pulled on the independent dairy farmers. Put them out of business pushing for mandates the small farmer could never achieve.
The big box stores charge a 1000 bucks if you are late. That should be illegal. Forcing guys to drive hard and cheat. It jeopardizes lives of the drivers and the public. Yet the ATA is the voice for these large corporations. If the ATA is concerned with public safety by promoting ELDs they should end late fines also.
I fully agree they should. If they can’t have loaded and on your way with in 2 hours of your appointment time, or arrival time if it’s FCFS, they should pay for every minute you sit waiting at their dock.
And, even if you “contact dispatch and get your appointment changed”, your still giving away driving time to get a delivery time you can make legally. Time is all we have to sale. If you give it away, it’s gone.
Let me explain it, your on the clock and arrive at a shipper. You have 6 hours before your out of your 14 and 150 miles to delivery. The shipper holds you for 4 hours. You now have 2 hours to drive 150 miles , that isn’t going to happen. So now your going to miss delivery because SOMEONE ELSE was screwing off. You just added 10 hours to the run and will have a mad receiver. If your a company driver, you couldn’t care less. If you own the truck(s), it’s a big deal. Get it ??
Sure usually to the next day, then ya lose your reload. I disagree with the eld mandate it should be a choice. I’m a 3rd generation 30 year veteran owner operator with over 3.1 million accident free miles. I feel the Eld’s are going to cause accidents & will put more trucks on the roadways during the big city metro rush hours & seriously may interrupt the food industry. Ever wonder why the Owner Operater still exists today which makes up 1/2 the driving force in the USA? We have certain commodities that need to be transported in a way that the mega trucking companies are not able or have the type of drivers to do the job bcuz they quit half way to the destination bcuz they can’t handle it, especially in the food industry the Owner Operaters are a different breed of Trucker & we will get the product to the receiver no matter what’s in our way. (Just my opinion from what I’ve seen & accomplished thru out the years) I didn’t need a babysitter connected to my ecm in the past & there will not be one connected in the future. Especially in a piece of equipment that I own 100% of. When this is mandated on Dec 18th the trucking industry will be losing a 30 year professional Truck driver. I have been compliant with all the changes thrown at us in the Trucking Industry for 30 years. I will not be complying with this Eld mandate. I am The Diezl’n DevilDawg & I wish you all safe trucking miles. Good LuckDrivers
Could not have been said better, Driver’s need to wake up!!! Thank you
most companies don’t pay detention time in years and they won’t pay for it no matter what happens, the problem is now days nobody wants to stick together like we did back in 1979 most these idiots they’re putting in trucking now don’t know how or have never run with a paper log if they ever did they wouldn’t drive on a Elog big carriers don’t want them to know what these drivers are missing and another thing is these idiots don’t want to hustle to make more money all I hear is they’re tired and want to sleep, gimme a break you bunch of wusses
If the Obama administration proposed [it], you can count on it adversely affecting the US economy. “Whoops, sorry those raspberries wont be there today. I gotta take a 34hr break, 45 minutes from destination……”
I feel OOIDA is just kicking an old sick horse laying down not wanting to get up anymore.
Guys, look here, We all know the corrupt politicians, mega carriers, and DOT, etc want us private owners gone.
ELD’s is another way to slowly chip away at our rights. Sad to see the way our country is now days.
There is no excuses for any trucking company or for owner operator to be not already in compliance. Companies like Werner Enterprises have had E-logs for almost 20 years.
The company I work for has had E-logs for 10 years.
My advice, E-logs mandate is not going to be over turned or delayed so go but a device and have it installed in the truck.
Your not an independent there’s a difference.
So why don’t you pay for the unit then? Are you going to pay for the repairs when the system shuts down? Why don’t you just keep driving your company stuff and let us do what we have to do
Werner
most companies don’t pay detention time in years and they won’t pay for it no matter what happens, the problem is now days nobody wants to stick together like we did back in 1979 most these idiots they’re putting in trucking now don’t know how or have never run with a paper log if they ever did they wouldn’t drive on a Elog big carriers don’t want them to know what these drivers are missing and another thing is these idiots don’t want to hustle to make more money all I hear is they’re tired and want to sleep, gimme a break you bunch of wusses
The only reason wiener is on elogs is federal dot made them go on elogs they were the first one to have them I drove for them several years ago and believe me you can’t make good money on elogs Werner and the rest of big carriers are pushing elogs and ata is pushing it because Werner and other companies are lining the ATA’s pockets to lobby for them wake up people 🖕
The camera facing the driver is illegal invasion of privacy and against the drivers civil liberties..
Yes you’re so right about the driver facing cameras d&d out of cartage mo. Settled out of court with a lady driver last year I talk to another lady driver that works for them said settlement was over $150.000
What’s done is done now a vast majority of truck drivers have left the industry because of it and arent comming back. If you look at truck dealers for instance. They have not moved very many trucks in 6 months and most have doubled in inventory because of drivers sell their trucks. Shippers and rec. Are having serious issues finding trucks period I have talked to them and the said all are seeing a 7 load to 1 truck volume throughout the US. It ls pretty bad that now anywhere in the country no matter how far or where to the rate per mile is 2.00 as a minimum. The gov. caused this now watch the cost of goods go through the roof.
“The ATA for example claimed that the only reason to oppose the ELD rule is “because they intend to cheat on their hours of service” and to “evade compliance with the existing laws and regulations.”——-What about the unit cost, installation fee, and monthly user fee? Our unit cost $700 and the monthly user fee is $28. We were able to install it our self.
Yes that’s per truck x how many trucks you’re putting elogs in
When Congress makes brash statements like “Drivers are just using this as an excuse to continue cheating on their Hours of Service” you can be sure that their minds have been made up. All the begging and lobbying will do nothing. The Bureaucrats want this to happen… period. The thing that nobody seems to be discussing here is that for every group and trucker that is against the ELD, there are ten other groups and thousands of truckers who are endorsing the ELD. Don’t belive me? Look at the arguments I’ve posted on the Truckers Forum and look at how I got slammed, condemned and drivers even stooped to name-calling. Granted, most of the guys that post often on that forum do indeed work for the “Mega-Carriers” like Swift, Knight, Schneider, JB Hunt, CRST…. there are a lot of drivers that surprised me to no end. The government thinks that we need constant surveillance. We need babysitters. The ELD is just the beginning. When people finally feel the sting of the economy taking a dump, product not arriving, prices sky-rocketing, possibly they will realize then that the American Trucker moves the Nation…without delay. Without us, you folks would be hungry, homeless and naked. But for now? We are talking to a brick wall… and that is just plain ludicrous. One more point, and it’s a valid one: Once the government bureaucrats get their way, they will look to another industry that absolutely cannot be stopped in its tracks without world-wide repercussions. The farming/agricultural industry, and if you look real closely at all of the anti-farmer signs appearing up in Washington State, better yet, speak to the farmers about their recent mandates and new regulations, you will see that this whole thing has absolutely nothing to do with safety. It has to do with money, corporations and limited-partnerships. For right now, the American Trucker is faced with being baby-sat 24/7. If you don’t comply, well.. there are plenty of carriers that will be glad to take your freight off of your hands.. I mean “your trucks” … When the ELD is enforced, the Owner Operators and small trucking companies will be hit the hardest. They can’t afford to buy new rigs, buy Workers Comp, hire other drivers… they will have to become business-savvy real quick… as if they aren’t already. For me, the fight is over. Too little. too late. I am not rolling over. I just see the writing on the wall. Some guys are going to park their rigs in protest. If that would have an effect, I would be all for it, but… as I already stated, there are plenty of other carriers who will be glad to take your accounts from you. The government is basically calling us “Criminals”… and they are assigning us electronic baby-sitters with monitors. That is all there is to it. I am walking away from the industry because I’ve been here for over 40 years. I’ve done my time. I can’t do it unless I enjoy my job. If I happen to be one of those drivers who helps out a smaller carrier so that his drivers can park their loads because of HOS mandates, I’ll be glad to help. I’ll even re-load for him. We are used to running. The only reason we are still here is because we know our limitations. The opposition say’s we don’t. The question is, once the dust settles: “what are we going to do?” I run the Pacific Northwest. The scales all have our numbers… open or closed. We are one of the most, if not THE most important industry in the nation. We even trump the pharmaceutical industry, just for the sheer fact that we haul their medications… which keep people alive. None of this makes any logical sense whatsoever. We are being fed unsubstantiated lies, and we will be paying the price… as if operating in the black isn’t already difficult enough without stopping our productivity.
I can’t wait till they do this no one thinks about the big picture every driver that’s been stretching there logs to make it work and has been making the loads delivered and picked up on time now to do that the small companies will have to hire half as many drivers to make it work now how is that safer more trucks on the road and less parking let them put their foot in there mouth like they did when they changed the 34 hour break
You’re a another one of these idiots we’re talking about its called hustling to make more money 🖕
The elog rule was created because the mega carriers cant hire or keep good drivers. The intention is to starve the true professional drivers into having to sign one of those B.S. lease agreements or lose our trucks and homes. My log book was created to protect me from them, not because I was doing anything wrong. My desire to park in bad weather, during rush hour, and when sleepy is not cheating anybody.Do any of you feel threatened by the fact that I dont drive in an unsafe manner or condition?it is the safest thing I can think of. Elogs dont promote safety, they only force compliance to ignorance. Shippers aren’t digital, receivers aren’t digital, road construction, car wrecks, and idiots are not timed to the digital minute either, Where is the safety? Compliance,Compliance,Compliance…. How about we look to the hos rules for the problem instead of always the drivers?
The ATA’s agenda is to eventually automate trucking. Make ELD’s mandatory. Frustrate the independents and gain market share. They can afford to run at loses. Then complain they cant hire enough people to drive the trucks. Phase in auto trucks that drive around the clock. With all these big mergers what do you all think its about. Market share…not always profit. Corporate CEO’s look at business in the next 10 years. Gain as much market share as possible. Push out all the little guys by phasing in rules. Ultimately they are all planning to get rid of the drivers.
And here you have the end game….very very good thinking!!!!
You won’t be able to park or wait on traffic etc with elogs once you start that elog clock it’s ticking
SHUT THE TRUCKS DOWN FOR A WEEK. AND LET THE MEGA COMPANIES HAVE IT. THEY THINK WE ARE GOING TO COME AND WORK FOR THEIR PENNIES THEY GIVE DRIVERS AND THEY CONTROL YOUR LIFE. THINK AGAIN. Y’ALL LETS SHUT IT DOWN. WHEN THEY SEE THE BIG FAT STEAK THEY ARE USE TO EATING AND FRESH SALDS ARE ROTTEN AND TRUNED BROWN. AND THEIR TROPHY WIVES NEW SHOES AND HIGH DOLLAR BAGS AND NEW SPORTS CARS WONT BE ON TIME.WE SHOULDN’T BE PUNISHED FOR WANTING TO MAKE A GOOD LIVING FOR OUR FAMLIES. GOVERNMENT NEED TO GO REGULATE THEMSELVES FROM TAKING OUR MONEY AND PUTTING IT IN THEIR POCKEST. THEY GET RICH OFF THE POOR MAN.
I’m ready lets do it.
Me too! It is the ONLY way to get their attention!!!
No one going to shutdown LMAO they been saying too do this for last 22yrs ive been driving LMAO 😂😂😂😂😂🤗🤗
The big boys don’t have enough trucks to cover the freight base that’s reason owner opps have the advantage because there is more of us than the big boys do
PRODUCE CAN’T BE HAULED LIKE ON A ONE SIZE FIT ALL. WHY DON’T YOU PUT IN PLACE AND TELL THE FARMERS TO TELL THE SEEDS DON’T GROW TO FAST BECAUSE WE ARE REGULATED AND WE CAN’T GET IT TO YOUR TABLE FRESH ANYMORE. YOU REGULATORS SIT BEHIND YOUR FANCY DECK THAT A TRUCK DRIVER DELIVER TO YOUR FRONT DOOR. YOU TALK ABOUT SAFTEY. WHEN ALL THE TRUCK ARE FORCED TO DRIVE IN DAYTIME WITH YOUR CRAZY DRIVING FOURWHEELERS THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE A MELTDOWN WIT ALL THE TRUCKS ON THE ROAD. AND PARKING I GUESS WE WILL BE PARKING IN YOUR DRIVE WAY
No wonder the fruit sucks. And fruit coming from chili and Mexico. Really? Fruit hard as a rock.
Thank NAFTA for that
Can we all just go on strike for a week and ground every thing.
In the not too distant future, EVERYONE in America will be forced to have an ELD so the government can track them. That includes children. Also all pets and farm animals will be required to have electronic tracking devices.
They already have it. Its called smartphones and banking cards.
They need the eld and all the other safety stuff they install on trucks nowdays to controll the new drivers since lowering the standerds to fill the seats.
LMAO yeah ok thats it 😂😂😂
I agree with what everyone here is saying but……. My company is going to loose out by doing this because we get paid by the contract hour. If we work over we loose but if we work under we gain. Hopefully these damn things will straighten them out and they will pay us for the time we work. Because its Gov. work they can get away with this . Travel to and from where we pick up our loads are on us. Pre and post trip, fueling and adverse weather rerouted traffic and anything else not in the contract they pay us. Maybe after they install this us drivers can go to the federal labor board and say see this now go get them. Keep up the good fight ,guys .
WE ARE STRONG TOGRTHER GUYS. WE CAN’T GO DOWN WITHOUT A FIGHT. WHAT KIND OF WORLD ARE WE LIVING IN, THAT WE ARE GOING TO BE TOLD WHEN TO SLEEP AND WHEN TO EAT AND WHEN TO POOP. WHATS SO FREE ABOUT THAT.THEY ARE SO SCARED OF A MAN HAVING ONLY ONE TRUCK ON THE ROAD, THAT WE ARE TAKING OVER THE MARKET. THATS WHAT THEY ARE LOOKING AT LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD. COME ON NOW!
THE MEGA COMPANIES WILL TAKE OVER THE PRODUCE. THEY HAVE MORE TRUCKS AND TEAM DRIVERS. WITH LOW PAY. THEIR COMPANIES GET RICHER, BUT THEY DON’T.
Well, I’ll tell you. For over the last year, I’ve tried expanding my 1 and sometime 2 man Operation and came up empty for equipment financing! I even hired Sales People out of pocket to approach Public and Private Financial Institutions for expansion funding & purchasing equipment! From more Trucks to Maintenance Equipment and Personnel etc. I came up with a big huge goose egg! That’s right, I got bupkiss!!! Nothing, Nada!!!! I heard every excuse in the book! But the one that concerned me the most was, basically, in the nutshell, …” Look, we are not giving money to the Transportation Industry as a Whole! Especially, the Trucking side of it! Why? Simple! To many regulations and to many crooks! Both, criminals and sanctioned costs, digging into the Profit Margins of both Large and Small Carriers like you!!!”…..Now look people! Not only do we have to stop this BS ELD Mandate! But the Image of Trucking as a whole needs and MUST be fixed!!!! Because if finance people are seeing the Government Regulations, as “sanctioned” Crooks & the rest of us as “criminals”out to screw everybody! The Trucking Industry has more problems in this country than just this ELD Mandate! Either way, I closed my Carrier for good, back, the end of July! Be safe out there my friends!
I DON’T KNOW HOW TO GET IT STARTED. SO EVERYBODY. PUT IN SOME IDEAS. THE DATES. AND LETS GO. IF SOMEBODY KNOWS SOMEONE THAT KNOWS HOW TO PUT IT TOGETHER. IAM 150 % IN. WE CAN SHOW THEM BETTER THAN WE CAN TELL THEM.EVERYBODY ELSE PROTECT WHY NOT US. WE HAVE THAT RIGHT DRIVERS!
Look man. Been in these strikes before. But the fact is we are all desperate to make a living to support our families. Guys would strike during the day and make a presence but haul at night. Every working class person is only a few cheques away from losing it all. The government knows that. So they got us all divided by class, race and gender, and the government conquers. Until we as citizens change our hate for eachother and unite no strike action will make any difference. Until the general working class is all on the brink of losing it all then the government will listen because none of us can support the tax system. Right now the corporations support the government and the government will always listen and fund them first. Corporations use job creation as the reason for the government to listen. The government is too blind to realize that coming soon in the next decade this whole capitalist system is going to crash, big time. The worst thing is, the one making these decisions are not going to be affected. Only way we can make anything change is we all have to put everything aside and unite and that is a real long shot before that happens.
E loggers cheat cheat cheat. Neeener neeener ATA employee supporters . The corrupt government, vested dollars, and safety Nazism is out of control. I say shut down. That would be cool. Kevin and others have made good points. Support the POTUS. Call your Congress person. Tell your neighbors. Demand reasonable regulations. The ELD does not improve safety or guarantee compliance. Only fools believe that.
Thank you for saying that MrNA,
All I know, is the costs continue to rise! I couldn’t expand no matter which way I turned. So I had no choice but to close up shop! Can’t afford to stay IN Business! I spent MORE than I made all of last year! Even got a bonus, if U can call it that! Since I made zero money! (Like I said, spent more than I made) Didn’t have to pay any taxes, last year! Guess, that’s sort of a bonus! But like I said; I’m closed! Trying to get back into my old profession! Before This Great Depression II, we’re all living thru, finds a way to bite me in the butt again!!!!.
So many good points touched in this discussion. I’m a young guy I’m 26 years old and have been driving for almost 4 years now ( I don’t want to hear anything about steering wheel holding or any of that crap because if you aren’t holding the wheel what are you holding) ive hauled tree logs for a year amd no not on a flat bed ive hauled low boys with skidders ,skid steers, excavators , and more , I’ve driven over the road for the remaining of my time. I’ve got a lot of respect for driving as I’ve done some performance driving growing up. It is very true that installing Elogs on a truck won’t dictate if a driver is safe or not , Warner, CRST, and swift all get into accidents pretty often because they are about volume and rushing people through trucking school. It all comes down to the individual you can crash leaving a truck stop at 12 noon someone could fall asleep after only 4 hkurs of driving because let’s face it weather you trip plan or not or own your own rig or drive for a company no one wants to drive for 11 hours a day or be on duty for 14 and then go right to sleep the moment they shut down every single time, it’s just like by law you can be a driver and drink when your off duty but you can’t drink with in 8 hours of your shift which gives you 2 hours of drinking. Why IS it that that’s ok but for a driver to choose weather or not he can continue to drive or not isn’t ok. It is a pain in the butt trying to route plan for example a trio from Richmond va to Jacksonville fl which is around 800 some odd miles and then you face traffic in north and south Carolina because of construction or because some 4 wheeler decided to make bad judgement and get into an accident , and then when your clock is with in the last hour your debating if you should drive another 40 miles and shut down but not knowing if that truck stop or rest stop is full or if Wal-Mart will tow you or not. Then your late on your load because you where in traffic for 4 -5 hours out of that 2 day trip( if you drive a governed truck at 65 miles mph ) I do roughly 580-650 a trip depending on the grades I face . When being an owner OP your your full throttle but if you through an elog in there this country will not be as productive as it is. You order something from Amazon prime for over night shipping it gets through plan and then truck. Those mail carriers like eagle express lines and fed ex those guys fly down the road and rarely get into accidents because they are making good judgment stuff has to get taken care of. But this is the country we live in ladies and gentlemen it’s all a system they know that drivers aren’t going to stop driving and go with out pay to make a point. Tell me this IS ANY ONE WOMEN , MAN, CHILD, EVER WORTH MORE THEN PROFIT FOR THIS COUNTRY? I THINK NOT
We need to vote out all congress and Senate people, and start over. They fight each other because of what the other party did to them, they vote their own pay raises, free healthcare for life.they need too do what is best for the country not themselves, I could go on and on. But you get the point.
I’m glad to that the OOIDA realized the importance of finding groups other than truckers to join together and fight this. Truckers will not organize and don’t fight for their own industry. It’s been my contention for decades, that the general public needs to step in and take the trucking industry control away from the mega carriers who are lobbying all the time for more control. Waiting on truckers to stand together and unify is a fool’s desire. Kudos to the OOIDA for once again finding the intelligent solution to the trucking industry’s problems.
You all think we have parking problems now? Wait until these ELD’s go in effect, there’s not going to be enough room to park anywhere!!!!
Ok folk, I’ve been driving for 28 years.I haul oversize, and heavy. the point here is not only the E-Logs but to many regulations put on the truck driver. What’s next cameras in the cabs some company’s are already doing it.Ok well some of you think that D.O.T will leave you alone think again,it will only give them more time to look for other things to write you up. I heard that when everyone goes to E-logs flying-j, Pilots, and T/As will start charging to park (20.00) a night, how you like that. So tell me fellow drivers when will this crazy train STOP when there is only 6 or 7 company’s left to drive for and you are driving for .20 cents a mile.
Parking is a HUGE concern when it comes to talking about ELD’s. However ELD’s are an effective defense against abusive dispatchers. We should all be able to manage and govern ourselves, which I believe that we can, but the government seems to believe otherwise.
when we have to star parking in people private drive ways and store fronts and where you find a place to put a tractor and trailer. then we get to drive all day with the safe driving 4 wheelers. there is not going to be enough cops to respond to what is going to happen after Dec. 18 2017. we are not going to have time to swirl to miss that unsafe driving 4 wheeler, all the cutting you off they do all day long. cut you off and then put on breaks right in front of you. its crazy. copies see it but they do nothing. drivers its bad now,. it is going to be HELL.
ELD’s won’t stop the outlaws, I worked for a company fiv years ago, and every night at midnight my clock would reset with a new 14 hour day for 30 straight days and I NEVER ran out of hos. Outlaws will figure out a way to beat the system, just saying
Okay, close your eyes, it’s a nice crisp fall morning and your at home. Everything is bad, nothing but problems.! So what’s a man to do? How do I get a break? ..My Truck! Row the windows down and start that beast up, your the captain of your ship. The power grows as you grab another gear, the problems become not so bad after the second hundred miles. Your mind has relaxed, your thinking clearly now. And you figure out everything looking out your window.Just smiling as the sign Scale Closed, that’s right..Your the captain of your ship..Don’t let them take your ship!!!!.. No Elogs…Let’s keep our piece of mind…. Together we can!!.
I can tell you how it works I have one in my truck and had to deliver at a food warehouse and I was on time but for some reason there was a malfunction in the warehouse and I was told to come back in the morning and no I could not park the night in their lot and during this time my clock ran out. I pulled the truck and load out of their lot and onto the shoulder, I called dispatch and they in turn called a tow to get me to the truckstop 2 miles up the road ELD’s can take a jump up a bureaucrat’s butt, 2 bloody miles and I could not move the truck.
It’s sad that tge people pushing for the ELD in every truck had never drove or not even no what it takes to make del on time .but it’s all about money some one is finding this shit and they need to be stopped before this happens . Where is all the, drivers going to park .we should block the interstates so mo one can pass or go to work sense we cant..
The big carriers are pushing the mandate they’re crying about being at a disadvantage over paper logs, but they made a deal with the devil/federal government to get the $15.000 a head for training these idiots they’re putting behind the wheel, the ata is behind it because the big carriers are lining the ata’s pockets which is no way for the owner opps nor the small trucking companies,I been saying all along if the big carriers wanna train the idiots let them train on they’re own money not the tax payers and they choose to run elogs so be it but don’t try to cram elogs down us drivers throats that don’t want them , I drove for a company on elogs for four years and believe me you can’t make good money on elogs cause they make you sit when you need to be rolling!!!
This will actually be a good thing. ELD’s will turn the industry on its head. It’s not a workable solution and will have disastrous results. The only people left otr will be people who can’t get any other jobs. No experienced driver will put up with the bs that trucking has become. I work hourly so I don’t care. Most companies will go out of business, most major companies will have extreme driver shortages and their profit margins will deplete. Who would do such a shitty job like Otr trucking with so many sacrifices and not make money. All the moron newbies saying they make money running ELD’s are ignorant because they don’t know anything about the industry. 500-700 hundred a week is a lot of money to these robots. Little do they know. Within ten years, rates will rise and there will be a huge driver shortage. Then regulations will change again because of it. Add in the current cost to run ratio with the new trucks being more expensive and unreliable because of epa regulations, it’s gonna be laughable that anybody stays in business. Soon the mega carriers will be crying because it’s unrealistic to operate a profitable business while being choked. The trucking industry is like a smoker complaining about the taste and price of cigarettes, while killing himself slowly. He then realizes that he never needed it, it was just something he like to do and so he quits.
