In recognition of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the American Trucking Association is doubling on efforts to encourage motorists to practice safe, attentive driving. ATA Vice President of Safety Policy Dan Horvath said, “Distracted driving is a significant threat to our industry’s goal of zero highway fatalities.
We all need to do more to improve highway safety by putting our phones and other devices down and focusing on the task of driving.” ATA has supported bans on handheld mobile device use by drivers and has committed to working with the Department of Transportation through the National Roadway Safety Strategy to educate motorists.
Share the Road Professional Driver Ron Round said, “Taking your eyes off the road for three seconds can mean you miss nearly a football field of the roadway. It’s unsafe, and drivers owe it to the motorists they share the road to give driving their full attention.”
