Upwards of two dozen truck driving positions are headed to South Dakota, after the Sioux Falls-based K & J Trucking inked a deal to buy the Sioux City-based Midwest Continental.
“It so happened the owner called me and wanted to discuss how we run our computer program and at the end of the conversation, she said when you’re ready to buy somebody, give me a call, and so she was kind of ready for us to work with,” K & J Trucking President & CEO Shelley Koch reportedly said. “And all of those things today are kind of hard to find. Equipment is difficult because of all the supply chain issues and getting parts. Drivers have always been, we’ve talked many times about the driver shortage.”
K&J acquires a fleet of 25 trucks and its 24 Midwest Continental drivers reportedly have an opportunity to transition over to K&J.
PS Logistics Onboards Clay Transport
PS Logistics recently announced the acquisition of Clays Transport a move that adds 35 tractors and 50 trailers to its assets.
“Clays brings great freight synergies to both our companies as well as our customers,” Scott Smith, CEO of PS Logistics, reportedly said. “It also further establishes our driver base in the Southeast and adds our first trucking terminal in Mississippi to our growing national network.”
PS Logistics has reportedly brokered 26 brokerage and logistics deals over the last six years. The newly acquired Clays is expected to be managed by James Waldrop as a standalone entity.
“P&S will be a great partner for our business,” Waldrop reportedly said. “Both of our companies are committed to our drivers and their success, and we share a positive culture that creates an ideal environment for everyone to grow and prosper.”
Forward Air To Buy Chickasaw Container Services
In a deal that will reportedly be completed with cash on hand by the end of November, Forward Air Corporation is expected to onboard the assets of Chickasaw Container Services.
Chickasaw, with terminals in Mobile, Alabama, and Memphis, Tennessee, grew its holdings to 67 power units over the last 30 years.
“Our intermodal business has been a key growth area for Forward over the past few years. Chickasaw Container Services boasts an experienced team and shares our commitment to precision execution,” Forward Air president and CEO Tom Schmitt reportedly said. “We are excited about this acquisition, as it gives us a second base of operations in Memphis and allows us to expand in the high-value Mobile market simultaneously – making Forward Intermodal a formidable player in that region.”
Werner Buys ReedTMS for $112.4 Million
Werner Enterprises recently announced it completed a deal to purchase ReedTMS Logistics for $112.4 million.
Headquartered in Tampa, Florida, ReedTMS’ revenue topped $372 million over 12 months with upwards of 90 percent of its earnings generated from its truckload and freight brokerage portfolio that include a reported 19,000 active carriers.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the achieved ReedTMS workforce to Werner. ReedTMS Logistics additional strengthens our freight brokerage capabilities,” Werner president Derek Leathers, reportedly said. “ReedTMS will elevate our logistics portfolio with new prospects, by increasing and diversifying our business verticals. This transaction continues to construct upon our Werner DRIVE technique and positions us for future worthwhile development.”
Werner recently purchased Baylor Trucking for $95 million.
