After successfully adding 50 tractors to its fleet of more than 720 power units earlier this year, R.E. Garrison Trucking recently put a pair of themed trucks on the road, raising awareness about childhood cancer.
R.E. Garrison Trucking, based just north of Cullman, Alabama, reportedly partnered with Daimler Trucks of North America to help increase awareness and raise money for St. Jude Children’s hospitals and research. Daimler was a seamless fit, given the reefer outfit had been launching a variety of themed trucks under Garrison Gives Hope since 2018. The produce-hauling operation had already released a themed tractor focused on breast cancer awareness this year.
“This whole project just really grew and wound up a lot bigger than any of us thought it would be,” Tracy Rushing, executive director of safety and human resources, reportedly said.
The opportunity to put a second tractor highlighting cancer awareness surfaced at a pivotal juncture. Garrison Trucking had just completed the purchase of Boaty’s Transport, based in Jackson, Georgia. The move expanded its Southeastern produce delivery reach.
“R.E. Garrison is proud to welcome Boaty’s to the Garrison family. Boaty’s Transport was founded in 1991 by Michael Boatwright with the goal of providing fast, fresh, and friendly transport of produce throughout the southeastern United States,” according to an R.E. Garrison press release.
The acquisition created a natural opportunity to partner with Daimler and put a second cancer awareness rig on the road through the Boaty’s Transport wing. Both trucks were recently unveiled, showcasing bright, colorful custom graphics. They are natural attention-getters. The childhood cancer rig conveys a positive energy with a signature yellow ribbon and the faces of smiling youths.
“We just spent the night just celebrating these kids and their successes and their stories,” Rushing reportedly said.
Dubbed “sibling” trucks, the tractors are scheduled to participate in a pair of St. Jude’s biker fun runs. The Boaty’s version heads to a St. Jude’s in Memphis, Tennessee, while the Garrison truck goes to Charlotte, N.C. At the North Carolina send-off, it will be part of an event that includes hundreds of Harleys. The Patriot Guard Riders are expected to escort the Garrison tractor.
Once the celebratory maiden voyages are complete, Rushing noted that the trucks will return to regular duties. She expects the cancer-themed semis will cover hundreds of miles over the next four years, raising awareness every step of their journey.
