Two separate recalls have been issued by two different truck manufacturers affecting roughly 3,600 trucks. Volvo Trucks North America and Daimler Trucks North America are both issuing recalls having to do with truck steering which can cause drivers to lose control.
Volvo is recalling 2,287 2020 VNL and VNR trucks which have been equipped with HD94 Sheppard gear variants. According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA, the steering gear mounting fasteners “may be insufficiently tightened.” This could result in loss of control of the vehicle.
As a result, Volvo will be notifying owners and dealers of the issue. Trucks will be inspected and gears will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on November 15th, 2019. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) is recalling some 1,331 2020 Western Star 4700 because the steering shaft “may have been improperly installed.” This could result in a loss of control of the vehicle.
DNTA will also be notifying owners and dealers, inspecting trucks, and correcting the shaft installation free of charge. This recall is set to begin on December 23rd, 2019. If you have questions, contact DNTA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL-835.
