Two email accounts belonging to the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) were reportedly compromised, exposing the sensitive financial and personal information of hundreds of drivers.
According to State Information Security Director Jeff Weak, the ITD hack occurred in mid-December. Investigators are still looking in to the incident, but so far, it appears that only two emails accounts were compromised. In just one of those accounts however, a hacker could have found 318 driver’s license numbers, 400 Social Security numbers or employee ID numbers, 999 credit card numbers, and 11 bank account numbers.
While ITD stressed that the information of a single individual could account for multiple numbers there, only 140 individuals and companies who may have been exposed during the attack have been notified.
The hack was noticed when one of the compromised email accounts started sending spam emails, so it’s possible that whoever gained access to the account wasn’t aware of the sensitive information that was stored there. ITD claims that so far, none of the exposed numbers have been used illegally.
“We are working closely with the ITD team and the Department of Administration to determine whether any personal data was actually breached,” Weak said according to KPVI. “In the meantime, the ITD is taking additional measures to harden our cybersecurity defenses against another attack and ensure that the personal information of citizens is protected.”

As a retired Idaho CDL holder, I have frozen my credit file with Experian to address this situation.

Big business , government is all the same. Why is it that when they screw up, they do not tell the ones who are affected for 2 or 3 months if they inform them at all. Must take that long to cover asses and see if it can be covered up ..
They really do not care about people or our information, they just figure if we get pissed enough then someone else gets the chance to take our money instead of them. what little there is anyway..
