New guidance published by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) suggests that some Americans may get first access to a COVID-19 vaccine once one becomes available to the public. Among those first in line could be commercial truck drivers.
The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) is made up of medical and public health experts who make recommendations to the CDC on how and when vaccines should be used. In normal times, the 15 members who sit on the committee meet only three times a year. Since the COVID-19 pandemic however, ACIP has been meeting – virtually – about once a week.
The meetings are all open to the public via webcast. People can even submit a request to make a public comment. You can register for the next ACIP meeting on their website.
Current ACIP thinking is that the COVID-19 vaccine should be distributed to certain populations first. Those groups are healthcare personnel, workers who are part of America’s critical infrastructure, people with certain underlying medical conditions which make them more at risk for severe COVID-19 illness, and the elderly.
Who is and is not considered an ‘essential worker’ is determined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency. Commercial truck drivers are considered to be a critical part of America’s infrastructure.
According to a press release from ACIP, the committee will wait until the FDA approves a COVID-19 vaccine and then “quickly hold a public meeting to review all available data about that vaccine.” Using that data, they will then create recommendations to pass to the CDC for which groups of people should have priority.
Both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines say that their vaccines have been shown to have close to 95% efficacy. A third vaccine from AstraZeneca is said to be between 70% and 90% effective depending on dosage.

The food and drink products are handled by persons with another environment and vaccine process requirements. Our military service overseas also come home with another illness not adapted by the USA environment. Overseas environment are adverse to the USA on imports and services of military personnel. Partially correct in that importers of food and beverage should be banned until this pandemic is under control. USA needs to be prioritized for vaccinations 1st due to our high level of infection and death. Only makes sense since we have been hit the hardest. Other countries can be placed in a lottery system or prioritized based on their levels of infection and abilty to slow their own spreads.

Let me get this straight, this announcement in this format is dangerous. There’s already a shortage in drivers now. If this vaccine has the side effects they say, most of the country will be affected in a major way. They will not receive deliveries expected due to drivers becoming sick cuz of the so called cure.
What i don’t get is this drug about to be forced on a majority of American life hasn’t been tested in normal CDC fashion. It would normally take seven yrs to get approved. Trials and tests over this time should give the public a better outlook on what will work. But the fear that has been spread is sad and dangerous. And this should be called out and put a stop to.

The minimum wage in my state was raised to $15/hr after this most recent election. I have no doubt that my company will cave to any requirements to get this vaccine. The governor in Maryland is now saying you do not have a Constitutional right to not wear a mask. In 38 years of driving, more or less, I have seen a lot, heard a lot and often been left wondering about the intelligence level of my fellow driver. Some just leave me shaking my head, some give me a new point of view to consider. Either way, I try to learn. Every so often I say or do something that make me wonder about myself, but that’s life.
I don’t think companies will require vaccines until they have to, as there would be too much liability for them. However, the politicians will probably talk them into it anyway.
Regarding the Wuhan flu, we are not being informed properly. We are told a lot to have us think the way they want us to, but not what we need for a proper assessment. It is more contagious, so will have higher numbers attached to it, but lethality appears to be minor. 99.6 survival rate is not something to panicked about.

If the shots are given out according to how important a person is, I would suggest that members of Congress would do well to stay in their seats and wait to be last in line. I personally will not be getting the shot. I don’t trust our government
I was just getting ready to start truck driving school. Sounds like I may rethink that decision if they’re going to use truck drivers as guinea pigs. I’d rather be stuck with a job I don’t like that be one of Bill Gates’ test subjects.

Once vaccine is available it will be mandatory for us. If you don’t take vaccine, your Dispatch will not dispatch you out and you will be out of work until you get vaccine shot and it is good for three months only. Than you will have to go for another shot. Further more.. you will have to carry a proof with you all of the time you got vaccine and the date of your last vaccinations is not expired (three months). So 4 times per year. I am 67 now and I am going out off the road because I don’t want to be Guinea Pig and let them to test vaccine on my self. I am off

I made it to 64yrs. old last spring without polio, smallpox, and tetanus because of vaccinations. Still update the tetanus shot every few years. I get the flu shot every year but still get a cold.
Vaccinations are good, look at the shots kids get before they are allowed in school. I don’t think they even get mumps and measles we used to get.

Amazing my family was IN WUHAN < where it allegedly started, Bejiing & Shanghai last Nov. 2019 for 2 wks & none of us, or the people in the group got sick, yet every Republican in the country as well as millions of others has allegedly got it 😂. The ingredients in the vaccine is the same as the yearly FLU vaccine. You know why? Because it's the CORONAVIRUS < aka the FLU, only a stronger strain. If Pfizer and other pharmaceutical companies are exempt from civil litigation and criminal charges related to any adverse affects, then I would probably not ‘volunteer’ to receive a vaccine.
Man O Man!!! Some of y’all are definitely section 8 when it come to vaccination. When I was in school, we received vaccinations for polio, rubella and other virus’. Personally, I believe that frontline workers and CHILDREN should get it 1st. I’m retired & elderly, and don’t mind waiting. I will take it though. KOOL AID in aisle 13

Truck drivers get no respect. I have been denied unemployment benefits after having a mild heart attack while I was in Michigan. I applied for benefits in September and was denied because I was unavailable to work ? What a joke..they actually put the date I was admitted to the hospital as a reason for being denied. Of course I was not available for work if I was in the hospital..
Nope, if they try this, there should be a strike, if not, i will quit and go work elsewhere. Let the politicians and scientists take it.
