The trucking industry is shining a light on its efforts to support various communities, including veterans, children, students, and more. Here are five uplifting stories from the industry.
Truckers for Troops
The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) continues its long-standing tradition of supporting veterans through its Truckers for Troops program. Recently, the program delivered 125 backpacks filled with snacks and hygiene kits to the Veterans Community Project in St. Louis, Missouri. Over the past 17 years, OOIDA has raised over $800,000 and sent more than 3,273 care packages to 39,276 military members, along with aid packages to 65 facilities caring for wounded, disabled, and homeless veterans.
Women In Trucking Association
The Women In Trucking Association (WIT) has announced its 2024 Top Woman-Owned Businesses in Transportation, recognizing the significant economic impact of these businesses. Companies on the list include AGT Global Logistics, Andy Transport, Aria Logistics, Bennett Family of Companies, and more. These businesses are celebrated for their financial stability, growth, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit. The recipients will be honored at the Women In Trucking Accelerate! Conference & Expo in Dallas, Texas, from November 10-13.
RNR Tire Express
RNR Tire Express franchisees Lynn and Don Parker have made a substantial $2 million donation to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, following their $1 million donation in 2019 and a future commitment of another $1 million. These contributions support the hospital’s $318 million expansion project, which aims to increase bed capacity, improve surgical approaches, and enhance clinical spaces. The Parkers’ dedication to giving back to the community reflects the philanthropic spirit of the RNR brand.
Bendix and Knorr-Bremse Global Care North America
Knorr-Bremse Global Care North America (KBGCNA) and the Bendix Foundation have funded a $107,350 grant to install a 136-panel rooftop photovoltaic system at Casa Hogar Esperanza, a children’s home in Acuña, Mexico. This solar panel system will significantly reduce electricity costs, enabling the home to run its HVAC units more efficiently. The project aligns with KBGCNA’s mission to support underserved communities and improve their well-being.
Love’s Internship Program
Love’s hosted 104 interns from 43 universities across 17 states this summer, providing them with real-world experience and professional development opportunities. Interns worked in various business areas, including merchandising planning, fuel quality, and customer loyalty strategy. They also participated in networking events and volunteer activities, such as assisting at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.
