The revolving door at the top of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is still spinning. The current acting administrator of the FMCSA has announced his retirement. His replacement will become the third person to occupy the top spot in less than a year.
When Ray Martinez announced his departure in October of last year, it came as a surprise. The FMCSA Administrator had been in his role for a relatively short time. He had championed multiple initiatives which the FMCSA counted amongst their successes.
Taking his place was Jim Mullen, his Deputy Administrator. Mullen stepped in as acting administrator. Before he could even be confirmed by the Senate however, Mullen announced that he would be leaving the FMCSA at the end of August.
A senior policy advisor for DOT secretary Elaine Chao will be taking over as Deputy Administrator, and therefore as acting administrator as well. Wiley Deck will be the new head of the FMCSA until a new Administrator is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate.

its really nice these rich guys have the money to retire, when all these truckers out there have hardly been able to keep food on the table and sacrifice their lives out there while the executives are out there living the high life while these guys out there working hard are paying for their enormous salaries!

It’s totally true the 70 hrs a week and how about all these company drivers getting ripped off on detention time not being paid for the first 2 hrs not fare when it the government gonna do something about that I’m i with truck if you where a office person and they told you weren’t getting paid for the first 2 hrs there would be nobody left stick up for trucker please

Who in their right mind would want the job!
Daniel Craig says
That’s right. Seems to mirror the turnover in drivers that a lot of trucking companies have.
Terry Frazier says
They need someone with trucking experience to fulfil this position. This will be better for truckers. Many people before made a mess making it very stressful for drivers. We lost great drivers because of this.

Unfortunately that indicates more times than not of unethical expectations that’s expected of a new administrator which flows all the way down and effects the hard working men and women behind the wheel of trucks that keep this country moving. That many in one year is is a pretty clear indication that something is wrong and they’re not going to be a part of it. Just as any king of government or office where you have no other choice but use them they will keep on until they get the unethical person needed to fulfill the agenda expected of that person and there vision right or wrong. “IF” this is the case I can’t help but think of this being part of the swamp that our president has mentioned many times which extends beyond the previous top officials, it flows all the way down to state, city, and county governments. As it usually goes you won’t know what’s really going on for many years if ever until someone publicly exposes the problem just as we have seen in our top government.

This is part of the main reason I haven’t returned to trucking. This administration’s level of just straight out corruption and personnel turnover is just too much. Truckers are already getting reamed out at every turn, now this. It’s just not AMERICAN!!!

The time kenworth plant in Quebec sabotage their own trucks with bent frames during the labor dispute got hushed up with the help of the dot . I even had several officers tell me to go away with my load of acid and no safety certificate.because they had orders to ignore these trucks because it was corruption to the max but only for a few hundred rigs in eastern Canada and northern Quebec. I WAS and still am trying to get to court.

Probably so he could retire at a higher pension than if he retired as a deputy. No interest in sticking around. Just wanted the title for more money in the future…..

Y’all are missing the obvious point! The FMCSA is a COMPLETE AND TOTAL WASTE! THEY ARE WORTHLESS AND ONLY MADE TO “BURN” ALL TRUCKERS AND COMPANIES! JUST LIKE DOING ANY KIND OF INSPECTIONS, LIKE WHAT’S COMING SEPT 11TH-16TH DURING A PANDEMIC!! ONLY TELLS ME, THAT THESE BUNCH OF DUMBASSES ARE A BUNCH OF GOVERNMENT HACKS, TRYING TO MAKE MONEY FOR THEIR STATES AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT! They HIDE everything under the Guiz of “Safety”! When all they want is our Money! Yes, I know their are Companies out there, that let Maintenance go to “shit” in some cases! Putting those dumb enough to work for those companies, lives on the line! But let’s face it. MOST OF US, Take care of our Equipment, have Families and Bills to pay and “Police” ourselves, on the road an off, because Parts and Repairs ARE TO DAMN Expensive. let’s face it, our job is to hard normally, with enough problems daily, let alone causing “ourselves” problems! We don’t need a bunch of “Boneheads” in DC, causing us Anymore problems! Y’all want to “Defund” anybody! Defund the FMCSA ! Leave those “Swindle Sheets” sitting on the Scales!! Then be done with these Corrupt Morons for Good!!!
Mark Holland says
FMCSA was Started with Senator John Breaux . It was a Good Thing To Replaced The Failed & Corrupt USICC .But Since Senator John Breaux’s retirement The FMCSA has become a Joke, it Cater’s to Large Corporations on what they want. FMCSA has asked Drivers there opinion on many important issues . Sometimes Drivers Most All Agree 95 % on a Safety Issue But The FMCSA has always made Decisions Against the Drivers wishes.
Keep Large Corporations Out Of The Decision Making Of We The People’s USA DOT FMCSA . Don’t forget All Government Employee’s are PUBLIC SERVANTS, NOT Corporation Puppets.

Probably got a job with a mega carrier like Swift. Or will be a lobbyist for mega fleets.

Untill drivers demand to be paid by the hour, it will never change. The piece rate pay it what keeps drivers being treated loke crap. Doesn’t cost a company anything to keep you sitting for hours.

One thing I’ve learned over the years with trucking is our leaders don’t want anyone in the top seats with real world experience. Mark my words because I guarantee this industry will continue to struggle on ALL levels until our superiors and co-workers UNITE with some common interests. The bullcrap rules and regulations NO longer make this an attractive job. “Nuclear lawsuits” with so much more against everyone behind the wheel because its rocket science to understand the unfair balance. Our leaders can’t handle the stress? Good! Welcome to our world where we happily walk away for better careers elsewhere! The cons outweigh the pros and it should never be such a flipflop. Technology and junk trucks. Customers on all levels everywhere working against us. More work, tighter deadlines, and Big Brother monitoring because we’ve lost sight of what it means to be a free society. So many good truck drivers have abandoned the industry. Its truth in the saying, “You get what you pay for”.
