The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will begin the review process of trucking’s hours of service (HOS) when an agency committee meets Dec. 7.
The FMCSA’s Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC) will meet by conference call as part of its task to give recommendations and advice on truckers’ HOS regulations. The meeting is only part of a multi-step process. The Federal Register notice said other parts of the process will include public comment and listening sessions on the proposed rulemaking. The Monday morning conference call meeting is open to the public, and is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., EST.
The current HOS regulations, put in effect under the previous administration, have been repeatedly challenged by the group Public Citizen and others. According to an Oct. 26 settlement, the FMCSA and the petitioners jointly agreed to suspend the latest lawsuit while the federal agency reviews and reconsiders the HOS rules .
