A former IT worker for Swift Transportation has pled guilty to charges stemming from defrauding the carrier of over $1.6 million.
29-year-old David Dwight Reynolds was hired by Swift in April of 2013 as an IT network engineer. He was given hiring power over third-party contractors as well as two company expense cards with which to purchase equipment and services.
According to court documents, by October 2013, Reynolds had already started making personal purchases using the company cards. Over the next three years, he charged over $850,000 for personal expenses like cell phones, furniture, and televisions.
Reynolds also created his own company, PGN Solutions LLC, and claimed that the company was a third-party contractor. He then paid out over $800,000 to his own company from Swift accounts using fraudulent invoices.
After a joint FBI/IRS investigation, Reynolds was arrested in June of 2017 and initially pled not guilty. He recently pled guilty to mail fraud, wire fraud, tax evasion, and transactional money laundering as part of a plea deal.
While his sentencing isn’t scheduled until April 4th, prosecutors say that Reynolds will be required to repay the money in full.

So glad the FBI took time out of not finding politicians emails and nailed this guy. Swift is probably starving their lease operators out to make the 1.6 million back as quickly as possible.
I totally agree with you.
You DO know they can do more than one thing at a time, don’t you
Probably is the least word to use to describe how Swift treat their owner operators, hell I left there and I make more money as a company driver than I did with Swift as an owner operator….
I’m pretty sure Swift is stealing from their drivers out of pay miles so….. it’s just one thief stealing from another thief!! When Swift gets that 1.6 million back, they should pay that to their drivers!!
Amen to that he’s just one that got caught and I agree if the gov would do a therial investigation I’m sure they could or would catch these trucking companies as well. You know back in the days the Ojays made a song about that all mighty dollar and they said that it carries a whole lot of weight, it will cause a woman to sell her own precious body. Now if it would do that and the trucking industry will take from their workers just for wealth. It’s sickening how the wealth pray on the weak so sad but it’s the world in its finest of fashion greed. Like Rondey king said why can’t we all get along; I say why can’t we all just share and live together but that’s just my idea.
The corrupt government does not investigate people that put a lot of people to work, no matter how corrupt they are.
It’s not all greed. It does however stem from the Government and corporate laws and Taxes. It takes a lot of money to just stay afloat this day and age. That’s why some, hell, at one time all the carriers merge with another, to help generate more income to stay in business.
You know how much it takes to stay in business with one truck, imagine 300! So they hire people to find ways to squeeze out every spare cent, that is wear some go over what is considered stealing, specially from the people who are the backbone of the business, the drivers and owner operator.
So the 1.5 mil. Hurts everyone.
All companies steal from there drivers..they should pay you for all miles on a trip..sitting detention time instead of waiting 2 hrs and all that crap..I’am Glad someone stuck Swift for a change.,
Old Dave kept the cash to him self instead of sending to all the drivers as a weekly bonus. If that were the case I would be inclined to help him out.
I’d rather flip hamburgers at mcdonalds than work for swift..Knight is just as crooked as swift
James, you are wrong, Knight is MUCH worse!!
That’s why they married.
Yeah buddy..knight what a crock of &?it
Swift works it’s local paid hourly drivers that work over 40hrs a week no overtime pay. The reason they don’t pay them overtime pay because when you punch in/ punch out a clock in the state you work in, they transfer that punch in/punch out to Phoenix, Arizona. Which is a state that doesn’t pay overtime. Even if you live in & work in another state. I worked 60hrs per week & never got paid 1 cent of overtime pay! They need to be prosecuted by each individual state for breaking state laws & possibly by the federal government.
Contact OOIDA to see about getting enough drivers to file a class action lawsuit then.
Another law was past @10 years ago during the Bush Jr. Admin. I believe, that said Transportation workers (that’s us drivers) are not required to be paid over time after 40. If the company deemed necessary to the survival of the company. So was not long after I went from time plus half after 8 hrs. To straight time. Working 3 day week I did not make enough.
Some of my friends are in the gasoline hauling and mandatory 12 he day, some on 6 day week.
All lost a lot of weekly pay. That’s
60 to 72 hrs of straight pay at $23 per hr where it use to be an additional $11 an HR on the last 20-32 hrs in overtime.
Alot of money? I guess, but that is for signing on 3/4s of your life working
So where is Jimmy Hoffa now when we need him.
All trucking companies are crooked
Totally agree! I especially distrust the “family owned” ones.
Really! I am the owner for my “family owned” trucking company. Have 4 driver’s plus me. My books are open for them to see at anytime. They see the boards and know what the loads pay. They see what the bills are and know exactly what the company is making.
Not all companies are bad.
Swift, and all the big Morman companies have been screwing vulnarable, uneducated drivers and owner operators for decades. They don’t deserve a penny back. It’s just one crook scamming another.
I say let the guy alone..Swift been screwing people for a long time..glad they got the wiener..
These owners of these big company’s should pay there drivers most or lots of drivers only make avarage 40.000 + a yr..i work for FCC and i gross every week roughly closs to 2.000 thats pretty damn good for company driver.want to drive for a good company.i do.
Yes, you probably do, however why don’t you tell the entire truth . You’re either a company team driver, or a lease operator that’s claiming to make that.
SPEAK THE TRUTH!!!
I can say I work for an honest company. I’m a in a position that I’m in the office on occasion and once overheard the safety director and GM talking of a driver who they had to terminate his contract for an issue that arose from his drug screen. The GM stated before the driver was contacted, he wanted see his driving logs to ensure they paid him for the work he had done and to be sure to get the ELD returned so they could issue him his escrow back. This company truly believes that you are not just a driver, you are their Partner. Sometimes things happen that we have to part ways – but they are on the up and up about every detail of their business.
I think once he saw how crooked his employee is he thought he might as well join in.
I think once he saw how crooked his employer is he thought he might as well join in.
LOL 🤣🤣🤣karma comes around. That’s what u get for cheating your drivers out of
the pay they should really be earning.
Took long enough more people other than him pocketed the money within company
Never steal from a thief.
Never steal period! It’s the right thing to do. Why lower yourself to their standards?
Knight is MUCH worse then Swift. Swift is greedy but knight are flat theives. Remember the Knight manager shot in there Texas terminal ? Im surprised it did not happen more . Swift wanted to make an example out of this guy. FBI and IRS involved no doubt about it.
@Glynda I’d like to know who you are working for!
I got terminated by this company for things that should never have happened. Perhaps I need to be grateful!
I have no sympathy for those of you that choose to drive for carriers that don’t pay a living wage. If you are to stupid to understand that you are working 70 hrs a week and away from home to make 40 or 50 k a year when you could earn that and be home at night working localy then shame on you.
All hyperbole aside (no, not all trucking companies are purposefully stealing/defrauding their drivers), this speaks more to their utter lack of oversight. Why the heck would you give a staff-level engineer a company card? Purchases of consulting labor and/or equipment should be done at the management level. Where was that department’s management? Where are the financial controls from their A/P side? If they do “steal” from their drivers, it’s likely more that they just can’t get the number correct and not because they’re sitting there saying “Yea, let’s rip them off”. This is laziness and incompetence, not malicious.
thats why i drive for a independand that is honest and cares abour his drivers
Word to the wise:
YOU CANNOT MAKE MONEY BEING A TRUCK DRIVER ANY MORE. THOSE DAYS ARE OVER MY FRIENDS!
@ Greg Goble
I believe you are speaking for yourself there sir with this statement.
what happened to oversight and internal audits?. This guy is probaly going to get 2 years in jail and all the money is gone, zero chance of restitution.
Big mistake by swift, they dont have accounting dept to track expenses?
