North Carolina’s Hardy Brothers Trucking adds to its 55-year legacy as the family-owned and operated outfit has been selected to transport the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree in November.
This year’s traditional Christmas tree will be harvested from a National Forest in North Carolina and delivered to Washington, D.C. Hardy Brothers trucking was recommended by Kenworth Truck Company based on the organization’s impeccable reputation.
A partnership between Choose Outdoors and the U.S. Department of Agriculture coordinates the annual Christmas tree initiative. After the tree is culled from the National Forest, a series of events typically occur during its journey to the nation’s Capital. The truckers are also expected to haul and deliver thousands of ornaments that are handcrafted by North Carolinians and smaller trees to decorate D.C. offices.
“For us to be part of the tradition of bringing the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is quite the honor,” Eddie Hardy, president of Hardy Brothers Trucking, reportedly said. “Our pride in the State of North Carolina shines throughout our fleet, and we’re excited to share the experience and uplifting communities along the way.”
This year marks the third time a North Carolina trucking company earned the honor since 1974. The husband-and-wife team of Harold “Ed” Kingdon Jr. and Deborah Z. Kingdon are expected to personally handle the transportation and delivery. The couple has reportedly been married for more than four decades and started driving for Hardy Brothers in 2018. Ed served in the U.S. Air Force Air National Guard for 37 years, earning a commission in 1988 and retiring as a Colonel. Deborah held the title of “chief home officer,” as the primary caregiver of their four children. She reportedly home-schooled youngsters from 1986 to 2008.
Hardy Brothers Trucking was founded in 1965 by Ralph Hardy, who started out hauling produce along the Eastern Seaboard. The outfit now possesses 55 trucks and employees upwards of 100 CDL holders who haul loads across the country. More than 55 years later, Ralph Hardy continues to manage daily office responsibilities. His son, Eddie, runs the operations side and his grandson, Ryan, serves as vice president. The family-owned business has earned awards that include the Safety Achievement Award with Fleet Solutions LTD, and the PVH Truckload Carrier of the Year Award. It has remained an EPA SmartWay member since 2008.
This year also marks the Kenworth Truck Company’s ninth as a major sponsor. The Kingdons will be driving a special Kenworth T680 Next Generation equipped with a 76-inch mid-roof sleeper and a PACCAR Powertrain to deliver the 2022 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree.
