Hawkeye Holdings logistics manager Jordan Wilson plans to deliver a few blows—and take some punches as well— in a fight to raise money for underprivileged Kelowna, British Columbia, youth.
“About three to four weeks ago we started getting into contact and sparring and full-on hitting each other,” Wilson reportedly said of the upcoming boxing match. “Now we’re getting into refining our defense. It’s pretty intense.”
Wilson is expected to step into the squared circle on July 23, after leveraging his trucking industry contacts for financial support. Support has not been a problem and Wilson is fast-exceeding the $1,500 donation goal set by Elevation Outdoors event promoters, Los Gatos Locos/Madkatz Boxing and Fitness, in Kelowna, B.C.
After setting up a makeshift boxing ring at home, Wilson managed to raise more than $4,500 by mid-June and the figure is still growing. He was quick to thank his Hawkeye Holdings team members and colleagues in the Canadian Trucking Alliance for their generous support. Hawkeye Holdings is a family-owned operation that was founded in 1922. The organization works across warehousing, trucking, property management, and tree seedling storage.
Although all involved are slugging it out for a good cause, Wilson faces a significant challenge. His opponent may be comparable in terms of height and weight, but the fighter in the other corner is expected to be nearly 20 years younger.
“I have a couple kids. It just makes you realize how lucky and privileged we are when you see other kids who don’t have what we have,” Wilson reportedly said. “If we can support them and put them into activities, they’d never have had the chance to do, it tugs at your strings a little bit.”
The upstart pugilist knows he’s going to take his share of body blows for local youth. But he’s been a proponent of supporting such charities for years. Members of the trucking industry are standing behind Wilson, as he represents the good works common to members of the freight hauling industry.
