Attendees of the Heavy Duty Trucking Exchange (HDTX) event, scheduled for September 4-6 in Scottsdale, Arizona, will have the unique opportunity to hear from Jack Van Steenburg, a former top official at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Van Steenburg, who served as executive director, chief safety officer, and assistant administrator at FMCSA, will deliver the opening keynote address on the evening of September 4.
Keynote Presentation
Van Steenburg’s presentation, titled “Life after FMCSA: A Different Perspective on Safety & Compliance,” will provide attendees with valuable insights into the trucking regulatory environment. Drawing from his extensive experience, he will discuss his time at FMCSA, current observations, and future regulatory expectations, including potential speed limiter rules and updates to the safety fitness rating system.
Improving Fleet Safety and Compliance
In his keynote, Van Steenburg will offer practical advice on enhancing safety and compliance within fleets, emphasizing the importance of not only having safety policies but also ensuring they are rigorously followed. “I want to let them know, don’t take things for granted,” he told HDT, highlighting the need for continuous follow-up on safety protocols.
