At great personal risk, a pair of truck drivers intervened to help law enforcement and another saved the life of a toddler.
A so-called “mystery” trucker made national news after tackling an armed suspect trying to outrun Martin County sheriffs in Florida. According to news reports, the suspect was sprinting across roadways as two cruisers tracked him. After entering a parking lot, an unnamed trucker planted him in the ground.
“The mystery trucker, with skills of a linebacker and the heart of a truck ‘stop’ stepped in and created the wall that people joke about hitting when they have a bad headache. And just like that, 19-year-old Robert Lee Clark was eastbound and down,” the sheriff’s office stated on Facebook. “He was charged with possession of a weapon with an altered serial number, resisting arrest, and tampering with evidence. We thank the driver for stepping in, although we don’t recommend engaging with fleeing suspects, just for your safety.”
Logging Truck Driver Blocks Escape of Shooter
A logging truck operator veered his fully loaded rig in front of an SUV whose occupant allegedly shot a New York State trooper on I-88 a week earlier.
“He actually pulled in front of the car, so that car couldn’t take off,” Deputy State Police Superintendent Richard Allen reportedly said.
The two suspects in the SUV were identified as Alicia Eriole and Nelson Troche, the latter reportedly died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Troche had previously been pulled over for driving more than 100 mph by Trooper Richard Albert, who was shot by the roadside.
Social media posts show the massive log truck blocking the entire I-88 interstate, pinning the SUV to the shoulder.
Trucker Saves Wandering Toddler’s Life
A trucker recently hit the brakes and threw on his flashers after encountering a toddler wearing only a diaper wandering the streets of Wynnewood, Oklahoma.
Robert Delaplain was running his usual route when he discovered the unaccompanied child in the middle of the road.
“It almost felt unreal. I turn the corner and there is this child in the road. It scared me. I immediately stopped and hit my flashers. It just kicked in. I am a parent and always watching my kids,” Delaplain reportedly said.
The child was six blocks from home and trekked through brush and across railroad tracks.
