The largest truck inspection blitz in the world is on the horizon. International Roadcheck will take place from June 4th through June 6th.
International Roadcheck is a 72-hour inspection blitz on commercial motor vehicles. Inspectors all across North America perform tens of thousands of roadside inspections and place a significant number of trucks and drivers out of service.
During Roadcheck 2018, enforcement personnel conducted 67,703 inspections. As a result of those inspections, 11,910 vehicles and 2,666 drivers were hit with OOS orders. That’s a 21.6% vehicle OOS rate and a 3.9% driver OOS rate.
While the vast majority of Roadcheck inspections are standard Level I inspections, every year the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) designates an additional safety aspect for inspectors to focus on. According to a press release issued by the CVSA, this year’s focus will be on steering and suspension systems.
“Steering and suspension are safety critical systems for any commercial motor vehicle,” said CVSA President Chief Jay Thompson of the Arkansas Highway Police. “Not only do they support the heavy loads carried by trucks and buses, but they also help maintain stability and control under acceleration and braking, keeping the vehicle safely on the road.”
Roadcheck will begin on June 4th and last for 72-hours through June 6th. During that time, the CVSA expects to inspect an average of around 17 trucks and buses every minute.

Time to push the stool in a little deeper…
I love how the DOT treats hardworking people like criminals. I worried less about cops and the law when I was growing pot and sending across state lines. DOT treats truckers like criminals who are guilty until you can prove yourself innocent!
AMEN to that 😊
Sad but true ..
You are so right!!
Dot is out there doing their job. They don’t treat drivers like criminals.. they are enforcing safety to the highest of standards. These officers are saving your life and the lives of others. Your family my family. Know your truck. Know the laws
@Andy Brisbon
10-4 on that, lot’s of trucks on the road that need repairs as well as lazy truck drivers not doing a proper pre-trip.
Wrong both of you.. it’s lazy companies if something doesn’t get fixed and usually a truck drivers feels so responsible for that rig they’ll fix the problem out of there own pocket. And if you were out here being a long haul truck driver you would know dot does treat drivers like criminals. This isn’t the 70’s no one is out here doing drugs or running drugs for that matter. No other career is so regulated ,not even the police and they carry guns. Next time try to know what your talking about before you speak and look iignorent. Or maybe you actually work for he dot. We ,drivers are just trying to make a better life for our families ,most of you go home at night and see your loved ones truckers don’t get to
Try walking in someone’s shoes before thinking you know what goes on. Thankyou.
I’m so sick of this harassment, it’s not about safety it’s about how much money
can be made, it’s not worth the aggravation leave it to the people who know
nothing but that, they think it’s the norm, this has become an industry that’s
hated by all your a back door service that’s not wanted but is needed to service
the upper class of scum who no nothing but their pathetic worlds, to serve and
then disappear to bring what they need then go away, a thankless ungreatfull
industry to be in these days a position that gets little to no respect, you need to
be controlled by morons who know nothing about it nor do they care what you
think, we need to be programed like a machine with no feelings or emotions
that’s what the EL’s have converted you to a controlled device.
So Very true
Exactly right.
Very true..UNLESS YOU ARE FROM 3RD WORLD COUNTRY.HARD WORKING AMERICAN DRIVERS ALWAYS GETTING DOCK OVER.
Slogs put me out of business the brokers I ran for took away my work after their busy season and left me high and dry. They said can’t tell their customers they have to wait. My husband had to take my tractor where he could make money and be legal. Don’t even have to worry about inspections anymore. They should go after these law breaking companies who do what they want.,
News flash, In 2020 , road check will also be the 1st week of June.
This is never a surprise.
And it was the first week of June 22 years ago.
Y’all just need to take that week off I work local here in the northwest never ever roll over a scale I did my share though I know where your coming from I still have to go thru all the guidelines for being an owner operator. Hang in there brothers and sisters it will only get better especially if you don’t have to run California
Buck are you just an ignorant butt wipe????
It’s not only the people you described but a lot of people don’t keep their trucks in shape no matter what the driver tells the head honchos. Driver are being cited for poor quality equipment when they can’t do anything about it. Their P2P is the one that’s gona be ruined. You need to go get the 2010 revised handbook giving out equipment violations to drivers who is responsible for the unsafe equipment.
Who is NOT responsible for equipment upkeep.. Even this smart phone with spell check isn’t making sense.
Drivers are responsible for inspecting equipment. Drivers make the choice to drive it. Companies may make the call on what they fix but drivers make the call on who the work for. Simple
Yeah drivers are responsible for their equipment, go ahead write it
up see how long it takes to get it fixed, either you sit while that happens
or you may be assigned a different truck if ones available, if you refuse
to use a vehicle you find unsafe you can put it out of service of course
you may be looking for a new job or find yourself in a court battling a
wrongful termination suit, what a choice huh, a good company will
have a plan for that inplace but their not all the same rite, either way
your the fall guy for the DOT the escape goat for the company and a
menace to society and guilty to proven innocent.
Find an outfit that respects the dvir. They are out there. Too many lazy arsed “professional drivers” don’t inspect their equipment. Because they would have to get down on the ground and look at their equipment.
And, news flash, as many white hillrod ‘Muricans as ESL types in that stack. Yep. I said it. I can show you pictures of the stuff ignored by your fellow “professional drivers”…
If you inspect, pre and post, then you’re not in that stack. If you are offended by this, then get outta your seat and inspect your stuff.
So very true! Amen to that!
If the truck won’t pass my inspection I’ll think nothing about telling the administrators to get it fixed and I’m going home for the night. I’m 67 years old. I’ve been out on the tar jungle for 30 years. I ain’t going to jail for anyone or any neglected vehicles. Nuff said
Not always. If you cant afford to switch companies because of background issues, or just too deep in debt to afford a 2 week gap on checks then what are you going to do? You just going to let your 5 kids starve? You going to get evicted and let your family live on the streets? No so it really is on the company!
Pretty sure the person doing the Pre-Trip inspection is responsible for the equipment they drive.
The DOT, The Government, The Courts – they have all supported drivers for refusing to drive equipment that is unsafe or against DOT regulations.
If you choose to drive it, its your problem and your fault.
Yep, new 2018 SD112, 750 miles, OOS because the Officer “Didn’t like the way the wiring looks up in there..” (some harness up in the frame by the firewall)
How did I miss that on my PT??
The violaters drive at night only, never getting caught.
DOT goes home when the sun goes down.
Get the drift?
Also Law enforcement gives tickets out but in court all the immigrants come with 3 immigration Attorney, always gets dismissed.
Therefore, they told me they don’t even expect the immigrants to get any violations…The scales at the breweries allow anyone to leave over 34,000 lbs. on any tandems.
When the immigs get on the road at night or even daytime, courts allow attorneys to get them out of any ticket, but not citizens of 4-8 generations.
We have to pay our taxes to pay Judges that dismiss their tickets…..even the SBAdmin., Gives the Immigrants $ 35,000 + $10,000 toward a business like purchasing truck, they don’t have to pay taxes on income from business for 5 years, then sell truck to a brother so he can do same thing for 5 more years!!
Wow
Not true. Don’t spread ignorance. We all have to pay taxes….3 immigration attorney? Where do you get these information from. SBA loan? Anyone can apply a load and all area treated equal. Only thing is, immigrants share information. For example if 1 immigrant finds an easy lender they all spread it around. It’s the network.
My truck is in peak condition, logs like well oiled machine. I’m still taking that week off because to h*ll with these sharks treating us like fellons. If they tried this with cars their would be chaos. Who wants some bully on a power trip pawing over your home, delaying your load.
Bet I been on the road longer then you.
I never took off on blitz week. Never thought of dot as bullies treating me badly. If they treat you badly.. wonder why?
They have a job, they must do it. If they wasn’t there, things would be much more unsafe= more people would die.
100% agree
Another brain washed servant Lmao!!!! do what your told and don’t
ask questions your not allowed to think for yourself, i’ve been doing this
for almost 40 years it’s past over controlled guess you don’t know
what freedom to think for yourself is huh, reminds me of being in the military I was so glad to get away from that kinda control and now
these FMCSA nazi’s are implementing this kinda control over a job
really, yeah they have a job to do go catch real criminals not rape
a hard working americans.
Guess the only ones complaining are the ones who have a problem with getting caught with defective equipment.
Absolutely they’re scared
Yep….or too lazy to do a proper pre-trip..
That’s Dam Right finally someone with Balls speaks up
Amen
I was written up on Blitz week, in Arizona, two years ago, for not logging line 4 for the entire three hours I sat at a facility waiting to be loaded. I wasn’t working. I was taking a nap in the sleeper. Last I checked the rulebook, you didn’t need to log line 4 if you weren’t working or supervising the loading being done. They still wrote me up for it, because they have to justify their own existence. They do that by writing so many citations per hour, regardless if they are legitimate or not. I’ll be shutting down those days only because there’s no chance in hell I’m going to let some 25 year old cop create a reason to drive up my insurance.
Amen to that!
Look at this poor victim! You’re really showing them! Good job! Lose a few thousand and cost them…. nothing? They will never know? Dang, you really stuck it to the man!
Great math.
Same here. I never drive those days simply out of principal.
Well said.
You are the only person who has commented and made sense. Much success to your driver.
These inspections are Stats and Public relations. If the issue was Public Safety wouldn’t the inspection stations be opened Everyday.. And why don’t inspect trucks running local between ( say from the container ships to local staging yards. Houston, LA.,Baltimore, and the list goes on..) and as everyone knows, punishment is not given out Equally..just my opinion..
That time of the year to get skunk sense and spray under your trailer and truck
If skunks had sense, you wouldn’t see near as many splattered all over the highway, and that scent they let out really stinks to high heaven!
I don’t worry about my rig being up to a mechanically safe standard. I’m all over it and under it constantly, looking for any thing that may pose a problem later. A stitch in time , saves 9. It’s too expensive to be broke down out on the road ! I wish that the inspectors that are doing these inspections would have at least 5 yr of experience in a shop , related to the same. Not trained from a book or film , certified don’t mean qualified!
Time to schedule a few days off thanks!
It would be good to have the 72 hr butt it’s all for the money.Remember the crooked dot at Donner pass inspection station?oh you weren’t born yet. Ed Bernett retired driver cdl since 1971. Good luck new breed.
Good time for every truck to shut down for a week
Most of these people who inspect Trucks have no first knowledge of the Vechile. they are just like the people who make the rules®ulations it is all about. money it is Dam sure not about. Safety
Fact is There are a lot of people not maintaining they’re equipment. Especially the sandal wearing people hauling cheap cali freight. Was on i40 in CA yesterday, got passed by a sandal guy doing well over 65 on 55 with a blown drive tire coming off the rim on the right side. Guy had not a care in the world. You can imagine what a good pretrip he did. On dot week they’ll have a field day with them.
And I saw a white guy born in the usa 11B vet pull a trailer down road with a broken wheel. Yep, the weld was broken securing outer wheel to center. Not a care in the world. Its not about where they come from, its about what they do.
I think you are lying about what you saw, I don’t think Joe is.
I’m all for inspections, if something is wrong with my rig I want to know!
What I have a problem with is equipment violations going on our records and the POS CSA Scoring.
is nothing but HARRASSMENT!
I ALWAYS FIX WHATS WRONG, but it’s a truck, there will always be Something wrong!
Damn … just as I start thinking my low-level money hungry company is starting to respect me a little. After a month of complaining and reporting that my front-end is trashed they finally say “Hey tell you what, let’s get your truck in the shop and fix these steering and suspension problems you’ve been having layely that are making you feel unsafe.” I made a big deal about it and thanked them for listen and spending the money just this very morning and then I read this!!!
Talk about a kick to the jaw while you are all ready on your knees bleeding!!!!! I choose trucking cause I thought I could finally be something more than nothing … but 1 year in and I discover that I am in same boat as before but now with more responsibly and the law watching a little closer!!!
That would be the pefect time to go to the house and park those trucks for a week or two to show them and everyone else thay we are sick and tired of being bullied. Go ahead and plan for it , and let’s do it this time.
I think it was back in 2011 when I caught the first wif of these inspections on the bill board at work warning us of these annual blitzes. At that moment I decide to take a vacation every year during this time…nothing new to me. Now don’t get me wrong I keep my truck in Tip-Top shape and my company has no problem with me running my truck through the hot lane and repairing it at anytime. Also about a couple of years ago I noticed that they have upped their game and added a blitz in October. Just like as a few others in this thread have said, “its a money grab”, Well to hell with em’. I’m not gonna give them anymore opportunities to steal. I got vacation saved up, I’ll just use it. Time to go Bow hunting for a week. Its just not worth it. Have fun boys.
Riiiiiiight! You can’t get two people to call two quarters 50cents!
I wonder how many four wheelers would be taken off the roads if they had to undergo an “inspection blitz” like this. The number isn’t really important. The room created on the highways and the extra revenue to the states through fines and the cost of repair parts would be worth it.
” Just completed an inspection,….took a load of well casing over Berthoud and Willow Springs Pass and back ! “
Time to find a slick lizard and lay up for 72 hours. After that another 4 days to re hydrate and rest up. Hell that’s a weeks vacation.
If these nazi’s want to find something wrong with your truck they will even if it’s new or if they have to make it up, driving at night time is the best way to avoid some of the harassment there’s a lot less of these thugs on the road, you don’t have to fight for parking in the morning, it’s all about managing your time, I prefer night deliveries if at all possible it’s just more relaxed less idiots to get in the way
Completely agree. Wish everybody was as awake as you are to how one-sided the system is.
Make no mistake. you will see the real truck drivers pull in. and say you wanna dance, lets dance?
Truckers are not just drivers, their hardworking, drivers that know more about trucking than inspectors. How things really work, the trucks, maintenance. companies, inspections, paperwork and permits, weigh stations, the D.O.T.,
the Road. timelines, and most of all SAFETY. Every day drivers inspect commercial vehicles for parts and maintenance service, not occasionally. to ensure not only their safety but the safety, and securement. of cargo. but the safety of the public as well. So take the time to ensure everyone is safe.
Cooperate with inspections. We can agree to disagree. But we want all drivers to return home safe to their family and friends.
7 years as a company driver. Not 1 inspection. Almost a year as an independent o/o and I’ve got 3. Nuff said. I’m taking the week off. Anybody can figure out what’s going on here. These arent (random) inspections. Defending this rigged system is madness and blindness to the reality of it all. Dont be a pawn.
If all you guys are worried about getting a ticket and spending money then keep your trucks updated and don’t have any problems like the rest of us do I Love the blitz I passed every time have a great day
Or stay home and I’ll take all the loads that’s what I like
ALL TRUCKS NEED TO NOT ROLL THESE 3 DAYS SO THIS ECONOMY UNDERSTANDS WHO’S IN CHARGE
I totally agree but good luck with that!
A lot of inspectors see blitz week as a competition to see who can get the most violations and the most obscure violations. I don’t fear an inspection, I fear an arrogant and ignorant inspector. Had an inspector write up a 20 year old tanker with a CVSA decal on it, said the discharge pipe was to close to the bumper. It was manufactured that way.
I think the BLITZ is good for our industry . So many of you don’t even do a inspection on your truck daily or weekly . You only fix something that is broken and don’t look at the whole picture . SAFETY HAS A LOT TO DO ON HOW DOT LOOKS AT OUR INDUSTRY .
I totally agree with your statement but do you normally fix things that aren’t broken? Lol
Dot needs to crack down on the idiots in the 4 wheels that enjoy cutting us off the road and jumping out right in front of us, start paying attention to that FMCSA!
I think in order to set expectations for commercial vehicles the DOT needs to get its own backyard in order. The highways and DOT ramps are falling apart. Alot of roass unsafe and extremely hazardous.
Just wanting to know do they work all hours of the night as well??or do they have a time that they stop to go home???this is my first time with this blitz inspection
The sad part is very rarely have I heard a trucker say “Boy, that DOT guy was great”
Why is that? Most in law enforcement are there to enforce the law, but sometimes laws can be used as a weapon, or revenue tool. Also, power sometimes can go to someones head. Unfortunately the DOT does seem to suffer from this problem. When over 20% of trucks are taken out of service for safety violations, that sounds high to me. I am a mechanic on forklifts and have defiantly seen a few that had a problem, but most people fix them as soon as they are aware. At that kind of percentage does make me wonder how many are a result of over aggressive inspection. (After all that would increase there sales), I don’t have a problem with a DOT like inspection done at shops at every oil change for that mater. That would catch a lot of problems before they become safety issues. I am sure a lot of shops do inspections as part of the service anyway. I do.
When a large percentage of the honest population avoid the lawman it is a sign that the lawman has a problem. That is what I am reading with all the people that are taking that week off. Considering the 20% odds of being shut down, I don’t blame them
If you keep everything in order, then you have nothing to worry about. To me this kind of weeds out the riff raff. Gets all the lazy careless truckers off the highway, makes more room for the ones that do their job correctly.
Its said because even in the mitts of all of this, we still can’t stick together. United We Stand Divided We Fall.
Those guys agreeing on this unlawful greed of power to govern you with iron stick do not know business.
Like the Judges and all public, it is your responsibility to inspect and get inspected by government certified inspection every year , may be 6 month or may be one month.
My company is one month, not scaring road side inspection, but it is cheaper.
If you are not keeping your equipment and get accidents you pay it including criminally charged.
just being baby sister for a human that moves the blood of this country is wrong.
Give their responsibility back, they don’t need a crap lousy inspection personnel that tells a professional driver what to do
FREEDOMS TO DRIVERS LIKE ALL the people.
If they don’t keep up it will catch on you quick. And you will never be profitable.
The more you oppress human nature, the more it does it wrong like communism.
The study supports this venue too.
Christmas in June.
So blame your mistakes in the past on the employer , your the problem !
The 72 hour blitz is not enough. This level of inspection should be 24/7 365. By the end of month three, every truck on the highway would be in good working order. The drivers and carriers would be ha he’ll of lot more pro active in making sure the equipment was in safe operation before that truck moved one inch.
Now why doesn’t that happen. If the focus was all about the public safety as DOT and the politics that back this Enforcement say, then wouldn’t it be done 24/4 365?
The reason you don’t see this level of inspection 24/7 365. Is it because it isn’t all about safety as they claim? Is a shakedown? Is it show , so they can say they are doing something while at the same time not really having to do it full time? Would that be too much work?
It reminds me of a city that places cameras on all the red lights in the city for the sake of “safety”. When this happens the result is that a significant number of people comply. The result of that is reduced revenue at every level of that system. Then the city removes the cameras in order to generate the revenue they require. So what you have is a tax of sorts. If they pass taxes outright to that amount, revolt would quickly follow. So don’t let safety get in the way of tax revenue.
Don’t miss understand me. There are many in the ranks of the dot, perhaps the majority, that genuinely care very much about safety. However, Does that mean is the main concern with the folks making the policies of about enforcing the law and those deciding what the laws will be enforced etc.
Now, I have only been driving for 24 years. My suggestion is Do a complete pre trip, making sure you have check everything three times. Evaluate what you find and be pro active.
If a dot officer might have even a thought of something not being correct then put in a shop and get it replaced or repaired during this blitz.
If your truck and trailer are brand new, then you may of still taking part of this week off, because if anything is wrong they will find it. They may find stuff wrong that you believe was fine and in good working order.
It becomes a business decision. Why place yourself at risk of receiving a payroll reduction from the “Safety Net”.
I can’t imagine the pressure the inspectors are under to get the desired results that are demanded and expected from them by those up their chain of command.
If you only have ducks and someone demands steak for dinner, then you going to cook that duck and call it steak. So the best thing to do is have all your ducks in a row and don’t look like a cow.
I keep my truck and Trailer in top shape but these inspections are B.S…. and yes I schedule my vacation time during the blitz… because they’re not interested in the safety aspect of it , they’re interested in making money all across the country …and I’m not going to give them part of a paycheck that I work hard for . So I would rather not work and not make any money , then to just give away my hard earned money…because if they want to find something they’re going to plain and simple…..!!!!
Commercial vehicles could have the latest, greatest suspension, braking and steering components in the world, and it still doesn’t do a damn bit of good when you have unqualified drivers in both passenger and commercial vehicles.
You can’t teach someone to be a competent driver of a commercial vehicle in a couple of months, much less a couple of weeks, and until drivers of passenger vehicles are educated on the limits in acceleration and handling of large vehicles, accidents will increase exponentially.
Seems to me the common thread in safety is education, so why not start there.
I record them on my cams and phone, then I record the potholes on the road their inspection is on. This give me reason to send my invoice to that state for repairs on my truck.
“ it was good when your officer inspected it, now it’s broken because of your potholes.”
All these people saying “If you would only keep your truck repaired and do a proper pre-trip inspection” bla bla bla bla bla.
I believe the man who said he got a ticket for not logging 3 hours on duty not driving while he was taking a nap. All you people saying “If you would only do a proper pre-trip inspection” are a bunch of cop pleasers and butt kissers.
