The National Motor Freight Traffic Association recently announced it will open its Digital Solutions Conference on Cybersecurity to all members of the trucking industry. The NMFTA previously restricted attendance to LTL stakeholders, but the growing concerns over cyberattacks prompted the organization to expand its outreach.
“We have been having this conference for many years for the LTL industry,” NMFTA Executive Director Debbie Sparks reportedly said. “With so many digital security threats facing the trucking industry, we are very pleased to open the conference up to the entire industry, so all will have the opportunity to benefit from these insights.”
Upwards of 61 percent of small businesses suffer cybersecurity breaches annually. Approximately 60 percent of small businesses do not recover from digital theft, shuttering operations within one year.
The 2022 conference is scheduled to be held at the Westin in Old Alexandria, VA, from Nov. 13-15. Discounted hotel rates are reportedly available and the educational conference is free of charge.
A reception is scheduled for Sunday, Nov.13, with gatherings beginning on Monday. Initial seminars cover issues such as cellular cybersecurity, e-mail security, and mobile device security, among others. These topics are particularly important to truckers who rely on wireless technology.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, former FBI counterterrorism and counterintelligence operative Eric O’Neill and others speak to vehicle and enterprise security. Electrical Engineering Prof. Yongdae Kim, from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, is set to discuss the vulnerabilities of LTE mobile systems.
A final panel discussion, called The Future of Cybersecurity – Where Do We Go From Here, closes out the event. The final seminar will be moderated by Michael Wickham, a senior staff engineer at Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab.
Also joining the esteemed cybersecurity experts are Chase Cunningham (Ericom), Gema Howell (National Institute of Standards and Technology), Jeremy Daily, Ph.D., (Colorado State University), Kate Vajda (Dragos), and Ahmed Shah (Red Canari).
The NMFTA has been a leading cybersecurity resource for over a decade and has collaborated with the American Trucking Associations and other organizations within the freight transportation sector.
