Operation Safe Driver Week is almost here. The “enforcement safety initiative” will be carried out across the country, resulting in one of the largest commercial vehicle enforcement blitzes of the year.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) heads up the program every year. But unlike CVSA’s other enforcement blitzes, Operation Safe Driver encourages law enforcement to target non-CMV drivers who are engaging in “unsafe driving behaviors” as well.
Despite the rise in COVID-19 infections in the U.S., everything will be going ahead as planned. Operation Safe Driver Week will last from July 12th through July 18th. Last year, CMV enforcement officers in the U.S. and Canada issued 46,752 citations and 87,624 warnings to drivers for traffic violations during Safe Driver Week.
In part because of COVID-19, roadways have been less congested in recent months. That has led to a noticeable up-tick in speeding violations. According to CVSA, speeding will be given special attention during Operation Safe Driver Week.
“To address this alarming trend of increased speeding on our roadways during the pandemic, CVSA selected speeding as the focus area for this year’s Operation Safe Driver Week,” reads a CVSA statement.

If the State were really interested in safety, which implies a regard for human life, it wouldn’t be legal for people to kill their unborn babies.
Also, I figure the State likes the issuance of more speeding tickets. They bring revenue and the P.R. people can say, “See, we’re helping keep you “safe” out there on the roads.”
Here we go again. They have nothing better to do then to try and take another buck from the drivers wallet. With all the crime going on in the intercity why don’t they focus their attention on that??? That’s what this is ultimately about, It’s the money. Period!!
At least this time, four-wheelers are in the cross-hairs with the rest of us…

Truckers make up less than 1% – approximately the same percentage as the rate if fatality from the coronavirus (which, let’s face it, is ultimately going to spread across the entire country before we get an effective vaccine distributed). If the nation’s willingness to take action to save the lives of coronavirus victims is any indication, there simply aren’t enough of us to matter. If we rioted, they’d just kill us.

For those complaining about them lining their pockets at your expense. If one isn’t violating the speed limit posted by an excessive amount, how would this be an issue…it’s not, correct? For those willing to take the risk, or failing to pay attention, you’ve no one to blame but the person in the mirror.

An ELD isn’t to blame for speeding either. Does your ELD have control over the throttle of your vehicle, no.
Been leased to three companies in twelve years as an O/O. The one I was at the longest for nine years implemented ELDs for fleet management in 2009. In thirteen years, had two speeding tickets. Neither time was the ELD at fault.
I’ve had a good run, generating good revenue, while being able to pay myself and generate profits in a business. The voluntary use of an ELD, as well as the mandated use had negligible impact on the ability to accomplish it.
