Since the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) put out new guidance on Saturday aimed at the transportation industry, there has been some confusion. Despite what you may have read or heard; CDC does not expect truck drivers to wear a mask when they are alone in their vehicles.
The new guidelines require a mask to be worn by all workers and travelers in U.S. transportation hubs; on trains, buses, taxis, ships, ferries, airplanes, subways, and rideshares; and “any other areas that provide transportation.” Masks must be worn “when boarding, disembarking, and for the duration of travel.”
There was some confusion as to whether “any other areas” included trucks or not. As long as you do not have a passenger in your cab with you, the CDC guidelines do not require you to wear a mask while in your vehicle. If you are required to wear a mask for a different reason however, the CDC guidelines do not exempt you from that responsibility.
“America’s transportation systems are essential,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky, MD, MPH according to a CDC press release. “Given how interconnected most transportation systems are across our nation and the world, when infected persons travel on public conveyances without wearing a mask and with others who are not wearing masks, the risk of interstate and international transmission can grow quickly.”

I wonder about the mentality of some the driver’s out here at times.
It not just the mentality of some people it’s the mentality of everyone. We all have a responsibility to keep ourselves and everyone safe, but to drive with a mask on doesn’t make any sense to me and especially when you’re more than 6’ apart from the other driver in the sleeper birth!

However it’s because people are just stupid I guess and have to be told they don’t have to wear it while in the vehicle alone. However I see it all the time and have since March of last year when all of this started. People driving down the road in their cars alone wearing facemasks and gloves.
A lot of those ppl wearing masks while driving alone are food delivery & ride share drivers for Uber, Lift, etc. They get tired of putting mask on & off 100x a day. It’s easier for them just to leave it on. It’s sad that so many are soooo concerned with what others are doing that they have to constantly put up with crazies screaming about virtue signalling.

People driving down the freeway holding the steering wheel while wearing the blue nitrate gloves and a facemask and there’s no one else in the car with them. Have even seen some fellow truck drivers doing the same thing.

If you read the article, they did not add on new regulations. They had to pass a rule; it wasn’t even really a rule just information that said truck drivers don’t have to wear a facemask while driving because apparently no one anymore, not even fellow truck drivers, have common sense to know if they’re in the vehicle alone, they don’t have to wear the mask. The rest of this was just them making it official about requiring facemasks at transportation HUBs and etc. You already can’t enter any of these places without a mask anyway. I can’t even get out of the truck to lower the landing gear at some place without getting screamed at if I forget to wear a mask while outside in the drop lot.
I don’t wear a mask all the time, but when I do, I line it with pallet wrap I got from a shipper to get a good seal.

I pull for the Post Office and haven’t worn a mask yet. I’m on several docks every day, around maybe 100 people including dock workers and other drivers. If I see a half dozen people wearing masks, I consider if a big day for masks. I think it’s hilarious how may people I see daily, alone in their cars, wearing a mask.

I keep my truck clean and it’s sanitized every day also have had sanitizer also bleach and lysol wipes my truck is completely clean in the cab including doors handles so when I’m in my truck i don’t wear a mask but it’s on everytime igo outside the truck and wearing disposable gloves that are change immediately when I’m back in

To all you out there that go and pump your fuel and go inside with no mask you think you can brag about it you are definitely an issue. I would not expect the CDC to tell us we need to wear 100% of the time , and even if that were the case and I was by myself I would not wear one. However, I do agree that if you have a partner in your truck it is safe to wear one. I did that without having a law to enforce it, I’ve had some pretty filthy teammates. I now enjoy driving solo.

Flu is NOT caused by a coronavirus. The common cold is. There are many different coronaviruses and many different influenza viruses. Both are very good at mutating, which is why the flu shot is different every year.
Survivability is determined by age and general health conditions. In my county, roughly 10% of the population has TESTED positive. (I’m sure there are many asymptomatic cases that have not been tested.) Out of that 10% of cases, 3% have died. That would equate to a 97% survival rate, which is high. I know at least several of the deaths were in people in their 90s, and even a cold can lead to death in the elderly.
It’s not the death rate that is so scary – although it is! – but that there are ongoing complications for so many people who survive even a mild case. There are people needing lung transplants at one end of the spectrum, and at the other people with ongoing loss of taste/smell, brain fog, chronic shortness of breath, heart palpitations, and much more.
It is asinine that this pandemic has turned into a political argument. The virus doesn’t care if you are liberal or conservative, rich or poor. Though of course if you are rich, you have access to much better medical care.
Non medical masks don’t filter like ppl think they do. If they did then why are we getting more cases in the county where I live where we are under very strict laws to only go out for essentials then the next country who is free to roam about and barely has any cases.

Agreed. Ive been from florida to Maine to Ohio. Ran Long island during beginning of covid, big red zone, twice a week for 3 months. Exchanged money, touched thousands of door handles. Around alot of people not wearing masks. NO ISSUES. Knock on wood. Washed hands, coughed into elbow.

The solution to the mask litter isn’t to not wear one, it’s to properly dispose of them in the trash, not just toss it in the parking lot when you come out of the store. Better yet, buy one you can wash and reuse.

However , I see trucking companies that where no masks at any time— no not one and many drivers do not where while having : ASSNT , CO-DRIVER , DRIVE TEST ETC. still no one wears anything. Many also, regardless of company policy still do smoke in trucks and around others & door–ways / exists , entrances , warehouse in general. Making for a hostile environment.

About two months ago I was at a truck top in Miami, they had an armed guard at the door enforcing their mask policy. I watched a driver put on a crocheted mask and the guard opened and held the door open for him. I on the other hand drove across town to not her fuel stop that didn’t have this completely useless and aside requirement.
