A road rage incident between two truckers led to a police chase across state lines. But the widely reported story that the trucker threatened police officers with a machete has now been debunked by the department that made the arrest.
It all started at a Pilot truck stop on I-10 in Alabama. Two truckers were reportedly arguing. One of them, 33-year-old Michael Mack, drove away from the incident. EMS personnel who happened to be nearby at the time reported that they saw Mack driving recklessly. They contacted the authorities and followed him.
Mack reportedly used his truck to swerve toward the ambulance whenever they got close. By the time police officers arrived, he had actually hit and damaged the ambulance.
Police officers pulled Mack over a short time later, but at some point during that initial stop, Mack took off. Officers then pursued him on I-10 Eastbound. During the chase he reportedly drove erratically and hit three other vehicles. After crossing over into Mississippi, he finally came to a stop near mile marker 61.
Once he had stopped, Mack got out of the truck briefly. Initial reports claimed that he threatened officers with a machete. One report from a Fox station for example claimed that Mack “got out of the truck with a machete in his hand and came at” authorities. NOTE: That report has since been updated.
Master Sgt. Chase Elkins of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said during a press conference that initial reports that Mack had “come at” officers with a machete had likely come the fact that deputies reported seeing a machete in Mack’s cab when they first pulled him over.
In fact, Mack got out of the truck briefly, but then almost immediately climbed back in his vehicle. So began a 5 hour standoff. It finally ended when police used non-lethal tear gas to get Mack out of the truck. He then surrendered to authorities.
Amazingly, no one was injured during the whole incident.
Mack is now facing multiple charges including one count of felony pursuit, two counts of second-degree attempted assault, three counts of criminal mischief, five counts of reckless endangerment, and one count each of DUI, exhibiting a weapon, and resisting arrest.

What an idiot. He was probably arguing with another idiot that was taking his 30 on the fuel island. Take both their licenses.
That is a really a poorly thought out statement. Why take both licenses ?. . The other drivers followed so the cops could find him. What is wrong with that?. Far too many times the bad guy doesn’t get caught . This time he did.
Just another in a long line of seat warmers that should NEVER have been behind the wheel. The crap these companies hire!
Damn right I agree. Too many of these inconsiderate steering wheel holders out here who take their 30 min break parked at the pumps, oblivious to other drivers who are on the clock, need to fuel & hustle on down the road to stay on schedule. They’re losers who shouldn’t even have a CDL.
And not a bit of consideration for others. It is all about them. Real classy!
It didn’t say it wAs a Fed x driver!!
Amen brother
We for sure don’t need those kind of guys on the road.we already have to worry about .crazy drivers in cars now trucks to? Everyone be safe out there.and try your best to come back home to your love ones.safe driving is.the only way to go.✌
LMAO smh planet crazy
Thank God they used a “non lethal tear gas”, because if they used a “lethal tear gas” he would die by drowning in his own tears. Who writes these stories?
Ignorant uninformed non reporters. They don’t know the difference between a trucker and pickup truck driver. They have no clue the difference. .Then again lets not be too hard on them. They are just like the newbie truck driver, ,haven’t learned much about the job and make lots of mistakes until they do learn. Not making a comment on the trucker?. It is not a requirement. But I did do a silent prayer for him and his family.
Wow. You’re a real idiot yourself.
😂😂😂 hahahaha! Lmao!
Jim Acosta, because he got booted out of the white house now he has to make up fake news on the truckers forum
Imagine if he carried a gun “for self defense”?!.
The other thing that bothers me is 5 hr standoff?? Why in the hell no one thinks of shooting his radiator ( it’s big enough and easy, no harm shoot), the engine would stop in 30 seconds due to low or no coolant in the engine.
Shooting a radiator won’t end a standoff, since he was already stopped. Do some thinking, dude
Lmao!!
Actually genius the truck has an air to air system that also works to cool the engine down. The truck can go a lot further than you think without coolant in the engine.
The Pilot on I-10 is at exit 13. If he went EAST how did he get to Mississippi? this started in Theodore, Al., and went WEST to Mississippi. It ended near Pascagoula, Ms. on the video I found. In the video I seen the truck swipe an ambulance and a pickup that has strobes.
I wonder if that goofy squirrel ran up somebodys pants in Pascagoula
Why does this crap always happen in pilot of FJ? They cater to the mega carries through rebates, and that is where the low class comes from!
Don’t anyone try to see why he did what the government alleges. Let’s not see if he has mental health issues just charge the crap out of him and lock him up that’s the answer. Ya, some people are just a holes but others have mental problems. Those should be helped not locked away.
I am so tired of those ” fake news”, people.love to lie about everything, we cannot trust on anything that being reported,by people, authorities, media, etc. Honestly all this stuff should being shut down, its not only poor media but also, rage inflation issue. It is bad enough, for us drivers out there we don’t need more prejudice and discriminatory lies.
This dude must of cracked under pressure this is what happens when to
many cockroaches crawl the same wall.
Good ol PTL they hire anyone..
I wonder who this guy drives for. I have witnessed a guy with a machete threatening a driver at the Pilot in Valdosta GA..PTI DRIVER..
And he left Alabama and ended up in Mississippi he was going westbound not East bound 😂 that’s number one, then I know why the story got mixed up, it’s because “Fox news“! LOL
All jokes aside, so young and full of himself and now he has ruined his life.
Charged with exhibiting a weapon???
What?
Just another case of you stupid truckers
Wow! A news outlet published the wrong information? I find that hard to believe! Don’t they all fact check their articles and report nothing but the true unbiased truth? 😂
Poor-Tired-Lonely …poor thing with anger issues! ANGER is only by 1 letter different from DANGER. Control your mood & attitude fellow truckers, it’s not worth the outcome.
Any driver that holds up a fuel island for more than a second should lose his CDL permanently. No questions ask. It’s just common since. In others words pull up to the pumps and do fuel business only. No hoods raised at fuel islands ever !! Then we could all keep moving, minding our on bus. WHAT’S HARD ABOUT THAT !!
My boss told me it’s not necessary to be polite , I told him when I started driving I made so many mistakes I’d just wave at other drivers , then they new I was a newbe. Nowe I try to be polite for payback to those drivers that gave me a break.
