The new coronavirus recovery stimulus plan which as been proposed in the Senate comes with a $1 trillion price tag. But with huge amounts of money earmarked for “transportation,” trucking shouldn’t get its hopes up. Only $238,500 (or 0.00002385% of the total) is targeted at trucking.
According to the bill, the $238,500 will go to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. Funds are supposed to “support activities to prevent, prepare for, and respond to coronavirus.” It is unclear how the money will be distributed or used to accomplish that goal.
Other DOT groups received much, much more funding. Under the bill, the Department of Transportation will get $26.2 million for the Office of the Secretary alone. The FAA will get $50 million, the Essential Air Service will see an additional $75 million in funding, and the Grants-In-Aid for Airports will have $10 billion extra to spend between now and September of 2025.
Trucking’s $238,500 stimulus amount would need to be increased by 42,000 times in order to equal what just the Grants-In-Aid for Airports stimulus amount is.
This stimulus bill is the Republican-controlled Senate’s version of the Democrat-controlled House’s bill which was proposed back in May. As neither bill has the support of the other side of the aisle, it is unlikely that either will be passed into law without major alterations.

Guess there’s not many members of Congress involved in the Trucking Industry.

Sounds like a Great Reason to STRIKE!

Well the $$ was going to the FMCSA, It wouldn’t benefit drivers anyway. Just as the aviation money isn’t going to airline employees. It is going to the FAA.

Maybe they should improve air freight to help balance the books while passenger air traffic is low? It seems like everyone just wants to sit on their laurels and have their hands open waiting for federal money. Where I’m at in Michigan has some serious problems with our leadership too.

Lack of understanding regards to the idots 😔

Seems strange that they are throwing money at the airports when the airlines are going bankrupt.
MrYowler says
That’s why they are doing it. Stimulus money is supposed to go to industries that are suffering financial hardship due to the impact of the coronavirus on their activities. Trucks are still hauling freight. Airlines have lost most of their passengers, and many of their destinations. They’re hurting more than we are.
Gary says
People need to realize we are ALL involved in the trucking industry in one way or/and another?

I didn’t get any ppp money, according to lender I don’t make enough, ooh well what a big joke this ppp money scam deal
Orlando Martinez says
Park your truck ,stop moving cheap freight, if you all do that they will pay attention to the trucking industry, but I know you won’t do that, some people like to be treated like slaves.
MrYowler says
The airlines will be happy to haul anything that we won’t, Orlando. They need the revenue. We are not, and never were, irreplaceable. Get over yourself.
Geoffrey says
Sweet, I got a load of lumber needs to go asap, when can they pick it up?
Darren C. says
Bro the mega carriers would love that! I agree on not hauling cheap freight, but there are too many starving OOs that cant afford to sit, and too many megas that can haul for pennies. Parking wouldn’t do anything but hurt yourself. 🤷🏽♂️

Hi Darren C,
I’ve been an O/O for 12 of my 13 years in this industry. I’m grateful I’ve been at a few good carriers and did well. I’m a stickler for efficiency, and saving.
I’ve been parked since April 9th, and still doing well. I was considering easing out beginning this fall or winter. I wanted to get some miles on my old truck after my second inframe in November of last year. Looking unlikely now.
There’s been no pain in being parked. I’ve been getting things done around home on that list that was getting longer, now getting shorter.
For all of choosing to stay out there or believe you have to. Pay yourself first and invest for your future. I never imagined a time like this would happen. It’s makes a difference between working because one wants to or because one has to.
Peace and blessings, stay safe while you stay it, any and and all.

As an owner operator-you can fill out the correct paperwork with your bank and get wage protection loans.

Don’t give the money to execs in either industry. They’ll just squander it on golf balls and over priced drinks. Give it to me. I’ll put it to good use… Ha-ha YEAH! 3:)

I’m in Dallas Texas alot of companies have received money & refuse to pay the drivers. Dallas Area Rapid Transit received $239,000,000.00 & refuse to pay the drivers. Alot of other trucking companies are receiving money & keeping the money for themselves. What can be done about this we been working through the whole pandemic & still working never stopped we need justice.
$ mookie $
Kelly D says
Moore,
If that is in fact true. Contact your local board of labor, a congressman, or senator. As long as you’re not receiving unemployment.
Someone will want to know they’ve taken money and aren’t paying employees. However be absolutely certain they’ve received money to be able to do so. I don’t know how one knows unless there’s a public list.
Good luck and stay well.

Just think; we never stopped when our Nation stop!! This is how we are seen.
They strictly have us under “The 13 Amendment” They just do NOT give a F%×!
about us. Most of all, they still continue to give all these “Indians” about 50,000 of them that’s in our industry that a portion of them could be Pakistanis, taking our moment. First they took taxi, then D/D with Baskin Robin whats next our truck industry.
We must take back what OURS. Russians, Indians, get OUT!!
We Americans MUST stick together.

I still haven’t find anything in our Constitution that allows the federal government to do ANY of these “bailouts”. All that is happening is a bunch of votes are being bought for pennies. Look at the last “bailout”. No one can find anything in the constitution that even allows 15% of that pandering. Why should this one be any different?
