Connecticut is planning to put truck-only tolls in place at several locations around the state. A new plan unveiled by the governor last week hopes to finance $19.4 billion to make improvements to the state’s infrastructure.
When he was running for office, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont campaigned on a truck-only toll to repair the state’s infrastructure. Soon after he was elected to office, Lamont got cold feet, apparently worried about the legal challenges facing Rhode Island’s truck-only tolls. When he proposed a ‘truck-mostly toll’ that would toll both trucks and cars, lawmakers revolted, worried that voters wouldn’t like it.
Now Lamont is back to his original plan: Raise money from truckers. Especially out-of-state truckers.
According to the website for the governor’s plan, tolls will range from $1.25 to $12.80. The price will change based on location, type of truck, and whether the vehicle is registered out-of-state. The plan brags that “almost 50% of the truck toll revenue is generated by out-of-state vehicles.”
If they go into effect, the Connecticut truck-only tolls will likely face the same types of legal challenges that Rhode Island’s tolls have. Primarily, opponents of the tolls argue that they violate the constitution by becoming a burden on interstate commerce.

It’s real easy to avoid Connecticut and deliver to neighboring states
Matthew kinnaman says
How do you avoid CT? Neighboring states all have tolls
Runner says
Just refuse any load going to Ct. that state is a hellhole anyway. Let the people of Ct find out what empty shelves look like , they can drive to NY or Mass to go shopping
Michael Gary says
Hey Connecticut, your grocery, furniture, and clothing prices will all go up in price accordingly, as the cost to deliver those goods goes up.
Your Governor just taxed YOU.
Suckers !

We hate lamont. Were fighting him every step of the way. This is a very corrupt state to be in. Goes back many generations

This is a thing that goes right past almost everyone.
Businesses never pay taxes. Consumers pay taxes, either directly, or through higher costs.
Most businesses operate on thin to razor-thin margins. The only way the people at the top of those businesses get rich is by doing lots of volume. If a tax on a business is raised, those margins stay the same, but the end prices go up to pay the cost of the taxes.
edwin rios says
Drivers should boycott ct.
Luis says
Some we are just the suckers, and accept all this… what if we really present a united front… and do not take any load to Connecticut… lets see if in a week or a month they will think better than toll the trucks
Me says
I’ll avoid all the New England states. I pray all their rates go through the roof. They’ll pay at the store. All of New England can thank Connecticut with lawsuits. I hope it costs them more than they steal from the trucks.
David Sanchez says
I am a truck driver and I feel sorry what they doing to the truckers I don’t understand why the drivers in the United States don’t do like they can do in Europe they stopped the countries I don’t know why we don’t stick together and stop this madness we’re all trucks there is no America everything will fall down for God’s sake. sake
Mark Gillespie says
Just a stupid idea, coz now shippers will charge buyers more money coz trucking companies will charge more as well which all leads back to the consumers who put you in office.
How stupid can anyone become must be a democrat!! Don’t help just harm attitude.
Larry says
It’s easy to figure toll cost. Add double that to any deliveries in the state. Let businesses know why you are avoiding the state. There may be a state I boycott.
I fuel up, have lunch…before I enter, only stop to use bathroom.
If they used the money yo fix roads the roads, bridges would be great. But it’s wasted more often.
Seamus O’Lynch says
Someone higher up the food chain than me should organize a sustained protest against this. Refuse loads, stack up trucks and drive minimum legal speed (40 mph), don’t fuel up in state, anything to gum up the works. I’m in CT and locals are doing what we can.
R says
I will just stop haul to Connecticut.
R says
I will move my family out of Connecticut and bulldozer the house down.
Darrell Butts says
I just think it’s great every time they need extra money their first idea is ” let’s bleed it out of the truckers . By the way what’s ifta being spent on . And Connecticut’s portion of all these truck liscence.
Jay says
Toll expenses usually past on to the consumer. No wories, the people of Connecticut just got screwed by their governor, wait till they find out the new price for a bathroom tissue among other things.😨

Very simple for me. I avoid the state when needed, but if I have to deliver or load there I charge more and don’t buy anything from the state. Sorry Connecticut residents, your governor just screwed you again.
Brian White says
More reason to stay the hell out of Connecticut.
Mark says
We pay all these taxes and tolls heavy road use but we can’t drive in the left lane in alot of these states and now Conn wants truck only toll 🤔🤔🛑🚛
Robert says
I try to stay out of the Communist State, but if I do travel through it or R.I., the rate increases by 1/3, if not then it can sit where it is and rot or let some Mega Fleet haul it up there and loose their shirts on the deal, Not me!
Zidri says
