A trucker and his wife have welcomed their baby into the world during unusual circumstances. The cab of his truck became a delivery room, and an Indiana state trooper became their doctor!
The story comes from an Indiana State Police press release. Trooper Thomas Maymi was parked near mile marker 52 on the Indiana Toll Road. Though he was on the Eastbound side, he noticed a semi stopped on the Westbound side. The driver got out, waving his arms, and ran across the highway toward Maymi.
The trucker, Carl Robertson, told Maymi that his pregnant wife might be going into labor back in his truck!
While they ran back across the toll road, Maymi called in to dispatch for an ambulance. Once they got to the truck though, it was clear to Trooper Maymi that there was not going to be time to wait for help, let alone to drive to a hospital.
Robertson’s wife, Shaniqua Traywick, was actively in labor in the cab of the vehicle. Maymi helped Traywick until LaPorte County EMS got there. After they arrived, it was only two minutes until a healthy 6 lbs. 3 oz. baby boy was born!
EMS transported Traywick and her baby to the hospital. Trawick and Robertson had a very special ‘thank you’ for Maymi. They named their son Malaki Thomas Robertson, his middle name in honor of the trooper who helped deliver him!

This is why First Responder’s deserve our Love Respect and Prayers. They’re there when we need them the most.
