Good day everyone. I have questions. I currently pull flatbeds, not for LandStar, but considering going to LS. My questions are if I move to LS as flatbed how difficult is it to move up? I talked to only one LS HH guy and he said it’s years to get a trailer so he bought his own. He also said he was grossing $12k per week on average and stayed as busy as he wanted to be. Is this realistic as far as pay and volume with LS? Does LS handle permits and escorts if needed or is it on the driver? Basically my end goal is to move into the heavy haul sector as a truck owner. Already have the truck, just need a place to put it. Thanks in advance.

Edit: I should note that I’m a rookie as far as this goes. I’ve hauled a few oversized loads, 10’ wide steel plate, but that’s the extent.

Takes 6 months and several loads at 10,12,14 wide.

Highly recommended going with your own trailer.

Money depends solely on your efforts.

I would look at getting hired with a construction company that moves is own equipment. Learn the machinery, chaining, load placement and permitting. To much to list.

The $12k was gross to the truck, after % to LS, before deductions.

Lots of variables involved in that figure - what trailer type was he pulling, and how often was he working - among others.
