Many meat processor use Mexican labor, some likely illegal, but many on an H1B visa. They crowd into rental houses where there is no chance of not being exposed to one of their housemates. Then they work when they are sick because they are afraid of getting fired and losing those visas. I think the companies should have been more proactive but in the end there was no way that this outcome could have been any different. We will see more plants go down while some others will start back up.

They are close to herd immunity, they had far fewer deaths than a typical flu season, and they didn’t ruin their economy.
