Well, I'll be regional so I'll have weekends off. With that I don't mind working 50 weeks out of the year.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

Yeah he could just buy a brand new truck and shift the maintenance money over to the truck payment and experience no down time. That’s what I would do.Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I think this might be the unrealistic part, but that was after tmc's cut. I shouldn't be running long runs, so I was expecting the pay to be better. Also, I didn't guess the miles I'd drive, mostly because I don't think I can accurately judge what I'd run.650cat425 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Problem is I don't have the cash to buy a brand new truck, That'd be my first bet.650cat425 and Rideandrepair Thank this.

How much cash do you have?
Health insurance only $2600 a year? If your single and make over 45k it’s going to be much higher.
I’d lower revenue to $175,000
Mpg depending on tractor I’d lower to 6.5 to be safe.
Maintenance will probably be about 25k but you could get unlucky and it be 35k. Generally 25 cents per mile on a used truck is about right.650cat425, Rideandrepair and tommymonza Thank this. -
If your married, make the wife get a job with insurance, one that pays well enough if something happens to you or the truck takes a dirt nap, she can support the family for a while. That's what I did. It proved valuable when I was shutdown the entire month of April. Her job was essential and she didn't lose hours. Her income kept us afloat and I had cash in my reserves to still pay myself a smaller salary and put over $4000 of work into the truck.
feldsforever, Rideandrepair and tommymonza Thank this. -
I think it's pretty clear from my post that I don't think I'll make $93k my first year. The hope would be to make $75k before taxes and after expenses. Which is much more than I make now.feldsforever and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Be prepared to deal with a lot of deferred maintenance issues if you buy a used truck from a big trucking company.
They buy new, and run the trucks with as little maintenance as they can get away with, then sell it to us suckers with 50-100k factory warranty miles left on them. About the time the warranty expires, the problems begin.
Not saying you can't make a living in a used mega truck, but don't expect it to run as well as the new trucks you drove as a company driver.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
That's great until she boots your worthless ### out the door,,
650cat425, Farmerbob1, Rideandrepair and 2 others Thank this.
