    Hi,

I flash every trucker that’s passing me when they clear my tractor at night so they can get over and I’ve noticed a lot of them flash their lights on the trailer more than likely indicating “thank you” because I can’t think of any reason why they’d tell me the opposite.

    How is this performed?

    Best regards, John

    Coffey Thanks this.

Depends on the truck. These days there's probably a marker light interrupt switch on the steering wheel. Mine is marked 'int.'

I have seen trucks with interrupt switches on the dash too, sometimes actual toggles, rather than a pushbutton.

    PE_T and Coffey Thank this.

On my blinker/high beam stick a push button labeled "clearance lights" and a tab that flicks the lights off quick. Don't sear my retina with the brights. I get enough of that looking at these idiots low beams

While you may think your doing people a favor... Brights at night screw with night vision even if it's only a few seconds... I'd just as soon you don't do squat. I can see when I'm far enough ahead to get in front of you. I don't need assistance. If anything, I'd rather you turn your lights off, then on, in a quick manner instead of blinding me.

I don't do it, but I laugh at the snowflake drivers who complain about being "blinded" by another's quick flash of their high beams.
I don't do it, and I don't need it, but I appreciate the gesture of courtesy from another driver, ... as any such gestures get rarer by the day.
To those who cry about being "blinded" I ask "Why are you staring into your mirror for "a few seconds" when you are still so close to that truck that their is a "risk" that a headlight reflection in your mirror might still be of "blinding" intensity? Are you (not you in particular, but asking generally) one of those ####### drivers that feels an uncontrollable and urgent need to get right back over in the right lane the moment your trailer clears my hood.
You shouldn't even be thinking of getting back over until you've put a truck length between us (better yet, two) ... which can be ascertained with peripheral vision or quick glances in the mirror, which eliminate the risk of being "blinded." (And, if you've got impatient 4 wheelers on your ### pressuring you to get back over... then you should have waited to pass until such time that you wouldn't be impeding traffic.)
